A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Baird was a daughter of the late Betty Venable Smith and Trammell Smith and was the widow of Joe Haskell Hass Baird. She was preceded in death by a son, Willard Baird. She was a homemaker. Services will be 4 p.m. today at Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Revs. Charles Hardy and J.R. Baird officiating. Burial will be in Baird-Maxwell Family Cemetery, Commerce. Noah R. Brown Homer Noah R. Brown, 76, of Brown Circle died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998. A native of Banks County, Mr. Brown was a son of the late Charlie and Omie Dean Brown. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and was retired after 37 years as owner and operator of Brown's Shoe Shop. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Whitfield Funeral Home with the Revs. Gene Todd and Frank Sailers officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Pearl L. Butler Dawson Athens Pearl Lee Butler Dawson, 76, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998. A native of Clarke County, Ms. Dawson was a daughter of the late E.O. and Vider Lee Bone Butler. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Statham. Services will be private. Survivors include two brothers, James Butler, Athens, and Emmett C. Butler, Lockford, Calif. Alma Dean Elberton Alma Drake Dean, 88, of 217 Edwards St. died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998. A native of Anderson, S.C., Mrs. Dean was a daughter of the late Bailey and Dempsy Hall Drake and was the widow of Edwin Dean. She was a cosmetologist for Elberton Drug Company and was a former member of the Pilot Club of Elberton. She was a member of Elberton First Baptist Church. He was a retired granite sales representative, and an United States Army Medical Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. Pope Winterville Sam Elliot Pope, 23, of 2290 Cherokee Road died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Pope was a son of Robert E. and Jerry Elliot Pope, Winterville. He was a 1993 graduate of Cedar Shoals High School and a 1998 graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science Degree in turf management. He was a member and recruitment chairman of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He was an avid outdoorsman and was employed with Paradise Guest Ranch as a fly fishing guide in Buffalo, Wyo.
