A native of Clarke County, Mr. Bales was a son of the late Lula Dellinger and Ellis Bales. He was a retired contractor with Southern Bell. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Macedonia Independent Holiness Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ardis Anglin officiating. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Gooch Sorrow Bales; a daughter, Lisa Bales, Danielsville; four sons, Ronnie Bales, Johnny Bales, Keith Bales and Dwayne Bales, all of Danielsville; four sisters, Francis Monroe, Evelyn Cowart, Shirley Cowart and Annie Mae Smith, all of Danielsville; two brothers, Bobby Bales and Ralph Bales, both of Athens; five grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Nettie M. Campbell Lula Nettie M. Campbell, 88, of 2893 Homer Yonah Road died Sunday, June 21, 1998. A native of Homer, Mrs. Campbell was a daughter of the late Clayton and Charlotte Brady Shubert and widow of William Aaron Campbell. She was a homemaker and a member of Silver Shoals Baptist Church, Homer. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Silver Shoals Baptist Church with the Rev. Perry Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include four sons, David Campbell, William Campbell and Edward Campbell, all of Lula, and Kenneth Campbell, Commerce; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements. Lee Harp Jefferson Lee Harp, 82, of 1765 Cedar Grove Church Road died Sunday, June 21, 1998. A native of Piedmont, Ala., Mr. Harp was a son of the late Joe and Martha Harp. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. David Benton officiating. Burial will be in Cartersville. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Neito, Wichita Falls, Tex as; two sons, Sammy Harp, Jefferson, and Wayne Harp, Taylorsville; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Deborah Lay Athens Deborah Hitchcock Lay, 44, of 288 Bailey St., Apt N4, died Saturday, June 20, 1998. A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Lay was a daughter of Thelma Hitchcock of Athens and the late Horace Hitchcock. She was a 1972 graduate of Clarke County High School. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson-McWhorter Funeral Home with the Rev. Andrew Clarke officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include two daughters, Creshannon Lay and Marissa Lay, both of Athens; a son, Tybias Lay, Athens; three sisters, Sandra D. Hitchcock and Wanda Hitchcock, both of Atlanta, and Donna Hitchcock, Athens; three brothers, Lawrence Hitchcock, Antonio Hitchcock and Byron K. Hitchcock, all of Athens; three grandchildren; a grandfather, Johnnie Walker, Crawford; a special friend, Lee Johnson; and nieces and nephews. Lewallen Lavonia Wilson Benjamin Lewallen, 76, of 51 Textile Ave. died Sunday, June 21, 1998. A native of Banks County, Mr. Lewallen was a son of the late Benjamin and Emma Grier Lewallen. He was employed 15 years with the City of Lavonia maintenance department. He was a member of the Nails Creek Baptist Church and Lavonia Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hamby-Weldon Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Carson officiating. Burial will be in Nails Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Reba Virginia Segars Lewallen; three daughters, Gail Lewallen, Carnesville, Cindy Justice, Lavonia, and Gwen Canady, Canon; five sons, Kaley Lewallen, Oklahoma City, Okla., Gary Lewallen, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Joel Lewallen, Jerry Lewal len and Larry Lewallen, all of Lavonia; a sister, Mary Lou Langston, Toccoa; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A native of Morgan County, Mr. Wood was a son of the late Edward Harris and Francis Butts Wood and widower of Bessie Lavada Arthur Wood. He was employed with U.S. Customs and a member of Brownsville, Texas, Masonic Lodge. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Duff officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Survivors include a daughter, Hallie Hickman, Buckhead; a son, Edward Harris Wood Jr., Miami; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
