A native of DeKalb County, Mrs. Billups was employed by the University of Georgia as a receptionist in Russell Library for 52 years. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Watkinsville Cemetery. Survivors include a brother, Oswald A. Billups, Toccoa; a niece, Mary S. Harrell, Stone Mountain; and a great-nephew, Will Harrell, Stone Mountain. 'Jimmy' Chafin Marietta Lawrence Vernon "Jimmy" Chafin, 95, of 230 Indian Hills Court, formerly of Lexington, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Chafin was a son of the late Gabe T. and Clara Patton Chafin and was the widower of Mary Nicholson Chafin. He was a retired farmer and a former deacon and member of Maxeys Christian Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Maxeys Christian Church with the Revs. Wayne Spangler and Wendell Baggett officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Bobby Chafin, Marietta; a sister, Melvie Escoe, Washington; a grandson, Robert "Nick" Chafin Jr. and his wife, Pam, of Marietta; three great-grandchildren, Kristen Chafin, Tyler Chafin and Laura Chafin, all of Marietta; and two nieces. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Christian City Home for Children. Ace Gaines Hartwell Ace William Gaines, 61, of 204 Richardson St. died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998. A native of Hart County, Mr. Gaines was a son of Caldonia Allen, Hartwell, and the late Hodge Gaines. He was a member of Maple Spring Baptist Church, Elbert County, and employed at Fletcher's Restaurant. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Saint Luke Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Alvin Scott officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Maple Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Johnson was a son of the late Charlie and Lula C. Johnson. He was retired from the University of Georgia and a member of Billups Grove Baptist Church, Athens. Logan Athens Audie B. Logan, 95, of 1660 Jennings Mill Road died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998. A native of Union County, Mr. Logan was a son of the late Henry O. and Minnie Parham Logan. He was retired after more than 40 years from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include a son, Herman O. Logan, Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Lona Clotfelter and Maggie Archer, both of Athens; three grandsons, 10 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
