A native of Athens, Mrs. Appleton was a daughter of the late William Alexander and Emma Jane Bell Burkhalter and the widow of Arthur Thomas Appleton. She was a retired after 35 years as a clerk for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and a member of First Methodist Church of Athens. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Allen & Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Milton C. Gardner officiating. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. James W. Palmer Jr., Thomasville; and two grandsons, James W. Palmer III, Atlanta, and William Scott Palmer, Thomasville. William T. Bennett Jefferson William T. "Bill" Bennett, 87, of 2733 Commerce Road died Friday, January 23, 1998. A native of Weatherford, Texas, Mr. Bennett was a son of the late Jack T. and Una Barnett Bennett. He was retired after 22 years at Roper Pump Co., a member and elder of Thytira Presbyterian Church and a member of Unity Lodge 36. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Thytira Presbyterian Church with Pastor Howard Killingsworth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Jennings Bennett; a son, Terry Bennett, Braselton; and two grandchildren. Pallbearers will be members of Unity Lodge. A native of Brunswick, Mr. Carlton was a Navy seaman, an Air Force pilot and a veteran of the Korean conflict. He was an accountant with William Gillam & Associates of Aiken, S.C., and a member of Forest Hills Golf Club and Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity on the Hill UMC with Dr. David B. Jones officiating. Burial will be later in Oconee Hill Cemetery, Athens. A native of Port Arthur, Texas, Mr. Eubanks was a son of the late James E. and Elizabeth Saxon Eubanks. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lauren Corn. A Navy veteran, he was a retired long distance truck driver, a Southern Baptist evangelist and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. A native of Moultrie, Mr. Horne was a son of the late John and Ola Mae Horne. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, he was retired after 38 years as a salesman for Sam Duggan Chevrolet. He was a lifetime member of General Motors Legion of Leaders, a member of the Lion's Club, received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award and was 1989 Lion of the Year. He was chairman of the Sight Conservation and Work for the Blind Committee and a member of First Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class.
