Arthur Union Point William M. Arthur, 81, of 4581 Lamb Ave. died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998. A native of Greene County, Mr. Arthur was a son of the late Carrie Conley and Clarence Arthur. He was a retired machinist from Chipman Union, a member, deacon and former Sunday School teacher of First Baptist Church, and a member of AARP. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Revs. David Key and Paul Glass officiating. Burial will be in Greene Lawn Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Hopkins Arthur; two daughters, Gail Arthur Killian, Tucker, and Nancey Arthur Glass, Hampton; a sister, Frances Finch, Greensboro; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Callaway Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Archie Chaney Sr. Commerce Archie Chaney Sr., 81, of 327 Hill St. died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Chaney was a son of the late Aaron and Neszie Chaney. He was self employed as a carpenter and a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Park. Josephine Crawford Augusta Josephine Flood Crawford, formerly of Toccoa, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998. Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Riley. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at Drew Funeral Home, Toccoa. George B. Farmer Athens George B. Farmer, 94, of 155 Deidre Drive died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Farmer was a son of the late Joe Henry and Pearl Booth Farmer. He served in the Navy and Army for more than 24 years and was later connected with the Clarke County Sheriff Department and Police Department, where he served as chief. He was a charter member of New Harmony Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Howard P. Garrison officiating. Survivors include his wife, Mattie Lou Pittman Farmer; two sisters-in-laws; and nieces and nephews. The family is at the residence. A native of Del Rio, Texas, Mr. Gregory was a son of the late Jackson C. and Amanda Jones Gregory. An Army sergeant and a veteran of World War II, he was retired from Cornelia Broom Co. and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Hunter Athens Dr. Preston E. Hunter, 70, of 143 Beacham Drive died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998. A native of Tonganoxie, Kan., Dr. Hunter was a son of the late Preston David and Gladys Burks Hunter. An Army Medical Corps veteran of World War II, he has lived in Athens since 1959 and was a professor emeritus in of the University of Georgia's entomology department. Dr. Hunter earned his B.A. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Kansas and served as Research Fellow for two years at the University of Minnesota. In 1959, he joined the faculty of the University of Georgia in the newly formed Department of Entomology. Dr. Hunter served as head of the department from 1974 to 1986 and played a guiding role in the development of a teaching and research faculty that is now recognized nationally and internationally. Dr. Hunter was published extensively on his research on the systematics and ecology of mites associated with insects. He collaborated with scientists in Israel and Mexico along with many of his own students. His research was supported by grants from NSF, the USDA and numerous commercial organizations. He was elected president of the Acarology Society of America in 1977 and served on its Board of Governors from 1974 to 1978. He was also a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Acarology. He was a member of the Citizens Review Panel of the Athens-Clarke County Juvenile Court. Johnson Jr. Hartwell Lonnie B. Johnson Jr., 51, of 675 S. Jackson St. died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998. A native of Hartwell, Mr. Johnson was a son of Lucille Johnson, Hartwell, and the late Lonnie B. Johnson Sr. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of New Hope Full Gospel Baptist Church. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at New Hope Full Gospel Baptist Church with the Rev. T.L. Logan, 95, of 1660 Jennings Mill Road died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998. A native of Union County, Mr. Logan was a son of the late Henry O. and Minnie Parham Logan. He was retired after more than 40 years from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include a son, Herman O. Logan, Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Lona Clotfelter and Maggie Archer, both of Athens; three grandsons, 10 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A native of Banks County, the Rev. Rudeseal was a son of the late Samuel Eli and Mattie Murphy Rudeseal. He was retired after 35 years from Trogdon Furniture Co. and a Baptist minister at Old Union Baptist Church. Willene Williams Hoschton Willene Banks Williams, 62, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Clint and Magdalene Marsingill Banks and was the widow of Horace Williams. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Williams. She was a member of Center United Methodist Church and a secretary with the former Carwood Manufacturing Co. of Winder.
