A native of Haywood County, N.C., Mrs. Buchanan was the widow of Elmer J. She was a graduate of Hinsdale Sanitarium and Hospital, Hinsdale, Ill., and worked as a registered nurse at Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Lexington, 1953-1975, serving as head nurse in obstetrics at the time of her retirement. She attended Louisiana Tech and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated from North Texas State University. She was a member and choir member of First Baptist Church. William James Athens William Thomas James, 95, of 355 Springdale St. died Thursday, July 23, 1998. A native of Greer, S.C., Mr. James was a son of the late Walter Ennis and Martha Smith James and widower of Muriel Phillips James. An Athens resident since 1946, he graduated from Furman University and received a Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1929. He was a professor in the psychology department at the University of Georgia for 24 years, served as head of the department for three years and retired in 1970 as professor emeritus. He was known for research in the field of animal behavior with many scientific articles published. He was a member of Psi Chi-Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi honorary societies. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Luther Fouche officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
