A native of Wilkes County, Mrs. Anderson was a daughter of the late Robert and Lillie Mae Patrick Young and the widow of T. Roy Anderson. She was preceded in death by a son, Lee Roy Anderson. She was retired from Puritan Mills, later employed by Family Life Enrichment Center and of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Arthur Bowick's Oconee Chapel with the Rev. Carlton Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include two daughters, Dianna Craft and Linda Starnes, both of Bishop; a son, Jackie Anderson, Watkinsville; a sister, Mary Butler, Watkinsville; a brother, Joseph Young, Watkinsville; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Grace Balkcom Miami Fla. Grace Matthew Balkcom, 90, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998. A native of Mitchell, Ind., Mrs. Balkcom was the widow of Peyton Balkcom, longtime pharmacist in Macon. She and her family moved from Indiana to Georgia when she was a child. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Macon Memorial Park. Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Jenkins, Miami, Fla.; a grandson; three great-grandchildren; and four nieces. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harts Mortuary. Clara Barnett Jefferson Clara Attaway Barnett, 105, of Mahaffey Street died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998. A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Barnett was a daughter of the late W.L. and Ella Casey Attaway and the widow of Claude Barnett. She was a homemaker, an Avon sales representative, a member of Thyatira Presbyterian Church and a Sunday school teacher for more than 60 years. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jackson Funeral Home with the Revs. John Homer and Howard Killingsworth officiating. Burial will be in Thyatira Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Tugalo St. died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998. A native of Newberry County, S.C., Mrs. Lyles was a daughter of the late P.C. and Margaret Young Workman. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and taught school in the South Carolina school system for 37 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Toccoa and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Toccoa First Baptist Church with the Revs. Dr. Henry Fields and Byron Kennerly officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by five children, Earl Martin, Hansel Martin, Jim Martin, Ed Martin and Katherine Martin Dalton. She was a homemaker and a member of Prospect United Methodist Church. Kathleen Pulliam Royston Kathleen Murray Pulliam, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Pulliam was a daughter of the late James Earl and Alice Hix Benton. She was twice married, first to the late Walter J. Murray Sr. and then to the late G. Dewey Pulliam, and was preceded in death by a grandchild. She was a member of Lavonia First Baptist Church and employed for many years as a sales clerk with Yow and McMurray. She was last employed with Dellarie Decorators. Family members are at their respective homes. John W. Simmons Athens John W. Simmons, 68, of 103 Hunnicutt Drive died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998. A native of Madison County, Mr. Simmons was a son of Wilma Nell Yarbrough of Hull and the late Joseph W. Simmons. He was preceded in death by a son, John Wallace Simmons II. He lived most of his life in Athens and was a retired district sales manager with Independent Life & Accident Insurance Co., where he worked for 35 years, during which he received many awards and recognitions. He attended First Christian Church and was actively involved in cooking chicken barbecue for fund raisers, churches, schools and the terminally ill. Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. today at First Christian Church of Athens with the Revs. Ed Adams and Ray Austin officiating. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Betty King Simmons; a daughter, Dianne Simmons Carter, Athens; a sister, Mary Ann Simmons Betts, Athens; three grandchildren, Nicole Carter and Jared Carter, both of Athens, and Kristen Simmons, Norfolk, Va.; and a great-grandson, Shawn Simmons-Banus, Norfolk, Va.
