"Beverly" Adams Sr. of 2848 Greenacres Road died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Adams was a son of the late Jim B. Adams and Eugenie Daniel Adams. He was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church, an Army veteran of World War II, a Methodist Lay Speaker, a retired maintenance supervisor with the Dept. of Transportation, and taught Adult Sunday School for over 20 years. Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at New Bethel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Mike Nickolick and Albert Askew officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Sudie Skelton Adams; a daughter, Brenda Floyd, Elberton; a son, James B. Adams Jr., Elberton; two sisters, Lula Baker and Mary Gaines, both of Hartwell; and three stepgrandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Joe Adams, Horace Teasley, Cecil Baker, Ralph Adams, Steve Adams, and Johnny Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Bass, Leon Stratton, Billy Stratton, Lamar Ward, Pete Taylor, John Gaines, Leon Gaines, Thomas Teasley, Amos Alexander, and Gene Crump. The family is at the home and will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Berry Funeral Home. Bill N. Bennett Watkinsville Bill N. Bennett, 69, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998. Mr. Bennett was a son of the late Grady and Ruth Tucker Bennett. He was a 1954 graduate of the University of Georgia with a B.S.A. in animal husbandry, attended Chandler School of Theology, Atlanta, 1955-1958, where he earned a master of theology, and completed studies at the Columbia School of Lutheran Theology. He was pastor of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Thunderbolt, 1959-1963, and of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Decatur, 1963-1964. He was hired by the State of Georgia Juvenile Court in 1965, earned an MSSW degree from the University of Tennessee, and retired from the Dept. of Human Services after 30 years of service. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens, with the Rev. David Bernthal officiating. Burial will be in Carter Hill Christian Church, Winder. Survivors include his wife, Linda R. Bennett; two daughters, Kerri Lawton, Lawrenceville, and Courtney Bennett, Watkinsville; four sons, Steve Bennett, Atlanta, Phil Bennett, Lilburn, David Bennett, Elberton, and Joe Bennett, Athens; and 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, Winder. Mildred Garland Toccoa Mildred York Garland, 73, of 9234 Ward Circle died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998. A native of Stephens County, Mrs. Garland was a daughter of the late Lonzo and Pearl Cleveland York and was married to the late Dan Allen Garland. She was of the Baptist faith and was employed in the textile industry. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Charles Savage officiating. Survivors include a sister, Gladys Wright, Lavonia; a brother, Bob York, Toccoa; and two great-nieces, raised in the home, Tonya Conn, Toccoa, and Tammy Olaes, Westminster, S.C. The family is at the residence on Ward Circle and also at the home of Hazel Martin, Hwy. 17 North Alternate. Gladys Malcolm Athens Gladys Daniel Malcolm, 85, of 156 Grove St. died Oct. 24, 1998. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Malcolm was a daughter of the late Samuel and Viola England Daniel. She was retired from the University of Georgia and was a member of East Athens Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Revs. Larry Elliott and Don Leaptrott officiating. Burial will be in Crawford Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Don Malcolm; two sisters, Frances D. Hansford and Lucille D. Wilkes, both of Athens; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Walter Freeman, Cecil Daniel, Sonny Hansford, Bobby David, Allen David, and Hugh Dawkins. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. James McCluster Winder James (Bud) McCluster, 88, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. M.C. Teasley officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Bush Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery, Winder. Survivors include a daughter, Janice McCluster, Winder; a son, James McCluster, Winder; a sister, Rosa Mae Spelman, Atlanta; a brother, Burt McCluster, Atlanta; and two nieces, raised in the home, Valencia McCluster and Denise Bailey, both of Chamblee. Eberhart & Son Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Henry Parsons Athens Henry H. Parsons of 130 Manor Drive died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998. Mr. Parsons, a native of Oconee County, was the son of the late Al and Maggie Dickens Parsons and widower of Joanna Gable Parsons. He worked with Piedmont Market as a butcher beginning in 1938, and he opened his own business, Parsons Brothers Market, with his brother Harold in the late 1950s, which business he operated until 1981. He had worked for several grocers as a butcher until recent years. Mr. Parsons served with the Army/Air Force as a radar technician during World War II, where he received the Good Conduct Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with one silver star and one bronze star. He was a member of Rotary Club and was involved with the Community Council on Aging. Mr. Parsons was member of First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of Friendship Bible Class. Funeral services will be Monday, October 26, 1998 at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church with Rev. Ray Austin officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston. Survivors include two daughters, Gayle Carswell, Ashburn, and DeDe Guest, Athens; two sons, Randy Parsons and Rucker Parsons, both of Athens; a brother, Harold Parsons, Bishop; 6 grandchildren, Sadie Parsons, Jim Carswell, Rick Carswell, Pat Ford, Keith Guest Jr. and Frank Guest; 5 great-grandchildren, James Carswell, Callie Carswell, Bryan Woodruff, Cara Ford and Katy Ford and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Gene Pittard Sr. Athens Gene Edward Pittard Sr. 64, of 310 Pittard Road died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Pittard was a son of the late Linton Pittard and Miriah Nowell Pittard. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church on Beaverdam Road with the Rev. B.S. Jackson officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 12 p.m. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Milligan and was married to the late Homer Whitfield. She was a forestry agent employed by the U.S. government. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Solid Rock Baptist Church with the Rev.
