A native of Madison County, Mr. Beard was a son of the late William Thomas (Bill) and Jessie Mae Guest Beard. He was preceded in death by a son, James Keith Beard, and a grandson, Justin Keith Duncan. Mr. Beard was a trader and a CB enthusiast. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pruitte Funeral Home, Royston, with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Vickie Carter Beard; a daughter, Barbara Duncan, Ila; two sons, Chris Bennett, Ila, and James Darrell Beard, Danielsville; two brothers, Frank Beard, Hartwell, and Charles Beard, Royston; and 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today. The family is at the residence. Annie Garrett Gainesville Annie Laurie Patat Garrett, 83, of 1010 Dawsonville Highway died Saturday, April 25, 1998. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Garrett was a daughter of the late Charles Patat and Tiny (Wheeler) Patat and widow of Virgil Garrett. She was preceded in death by a son, John Henry Garrett. She was a homemaker and a member of Apple Valley Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Apple Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Vaughn Howington officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Cheek, Cornelia, Ludie Mae Nations, Commerce, and Barbara Watkins, Cleveland; a son, Jimmy Garrett, Commerce; two sisters, Evalou Wheeler and Nettie Wheeler, both of Jefferson; a brother, Carlton Wheeler, Jefferson; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, from 7-9 p.m. today. Lewis Shedd Demorest Lewis Shedd, 56, died Saturday, April 25, 1998. A native of Cobb County, Mr. Shedd was a son of Eva Moore of Clarkesville and the late J.R. Shedd. He was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Whitfield Funeral Home, Baldwin, with the Rev. Clyde Garrison officiating Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery. In addition to his mother, survivors include a daughter, Laura Shedd, Cornelia; two sons, Michael Shedd and Matthew Shedd, both of Cornelia; and three sisters, Evelyn Royston, Winder, Nancy Lovell, Clarkesville, and Carolyn Marquis, Cornelia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. Gregg Turner Elberton Greggory Mark Turner Sr., 39, of 1471 Robin Blue Road died Friday, April 24, 1998. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Turner was a son of Jerry M. and Gwen Herring Turner of Elberton. He was the chief operating officer of Turner Concrete and Quality Block and was a member of Rock Branch Baptist Church. He was a member of the Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25, the Granite Center Shrine Club, the Yaarab Shrine Temple and the Concrete Products Association. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at Rock Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward Sayer and Joe Whittemore officiating. Burial, with Masonic rites, was in the church cemetery. In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Melinda Ray Turner; a daughter, Amber Turner, of the home; a son, Mark Turner Jr., of the home; a sister, Kathy Turner Banks, Elberton; a brother, Brian Turner, Dewy Rose; and his maternal grandfather, Clinton Herring, Dewy Rose. Pallbearers were Steve Craft, Zeno Thomas, Gale Slay, Craig Cleveland, John Colvard, Tommie Downer, Joe Fortson and Josh Burton. Honorary pallbearers were members of Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25.
