Brooks-Smith Athens Dorothy S. Brooks-Smith, 58, of 467 Whitehead Road, Apt. A, died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998. A native of Fort Benning, Mrs. Brooks-Smith was a daughter of the late Cpl. H.T. and Dorothy Allen Skates. She had lived in the Athens area since 1963, moving from Columbus. She was a receptionist at Georgia Neurological Associates. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home West, Bogart, with the Rev. James Dumas officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Kathleen Brooks-Gorman, Lawrenceville; two sons, Stephen Walter Brooks, Colbert, and James Richard Brooks, Winterville; and six grandchildren, Joshua Stephen Brooks, Colbert, Cassidy Brooks and Andee Brooks, both of Winterville, Courtnee Gorman, Athens, and Ashlee Gorman and Britnee Gorman, both of Lawrenceville. Nicholas Chamberlain Athens Nicholas Wayne Chamberlain, infant son of Joe and Barbara Carter Chamberlain of 6728 Jefferson River Road died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Crooked Creek Church Cemetery with the Rev. Charlie Rakestraw officiating. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include three sisters, Taylor Chamberlain, Kerri Clark and Amber Chamberlain, all of Athens; a brother, Brandon Chamberlain, Athens; three grandparents, Myrtle Carter, Winder, and Sherri and Jerry Chamberlain, Athens; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Mary Louise Foster Bishop Mary Louise Foster died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998. A native of Bishop, Miss Foster was a daughter of the late James Samuel and Ethel Cox Foster. Her career in nursing spanned more than 50 years. After receiving training at St. Joseph's Hospital, Atlanta, she worked as office nurse for Dr. Harry E. Talmadge and later continued at Athens Orthopedic Clinic. She was a member and past president of Athens Pilot Club, with 25 years of perfect attendance, a member and past president of YWCO's Entre Nous Club. She was a member for more than 50 years of the Athens Chapter 268 of the Order of the Eastern Star and a lifelong member of Bishop Methodist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home West, Bogart. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include a sister, Margaret Foster, Bishop; five brothers, James M. Foster, Orange City, Fla., Fred H. Foster, Watkinsville, George D. Foster, Longwood, Fla., and Joe C. Garrison Belton Olis William Garrison, 80, formerly of 105 Herd Ave., died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Garrison was a son of the late John and Victoria Martin Garrison and was the widower of Nettie Shell Garrison. An Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater, he was a retired barber and a member of Eastview Baptist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cox Funeral Home with the Revs. Kirk Mitchell and Swayne Cochran officiating. Burial will be in Belton Cemetery. Survivors include four sisters, Marie Caudell and Mary Lee Caudell, both of Greenville, Frances Thomas, Carnesville, and Betty Caudell, Jefferson; a brother, Ralph Garrison, Carnesville; and nieces and nephews. Daunton Woodrow Kees, 85, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, in Athens, Ga. Mr. Kees was retired from the Rapides Bank in Pineville where he was a loan officer. He was a member of First Methodist Church, Pineville, where he had served on the Administrative Board. As a retiree he delivered the sanctuary flowers to the shut-ins. Mr. Kees was a charter member of the Pineville Lions Club where he had served as president, district director and had been named a Melvin Jones Fellow by the Lions Club International. Mr. Kees was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Arville Riddle Kees, and his son, Louisiana State Trooper William Michael Kees, who died in the line of duty. He was the son of Jessie Lafayette Kees and Arzelia Smith Kees, Pineville. Survivors include a son, D. Woodrow Kees II, Springfield, Va.; a son-in-law and daughter, Dr. Roscoe and Halaine Kees Davis, Athens, Ga., and a daughter-in-law, Kathie Kees Hebert, West Monroe, La.; grandchildren Kevin and Melissa Davis and great-grandchildren, Zoe McCay Davis, Durham, N.C., Michael and Kimberly Daun Davis Miller, Atlanta, Ga., Justin B. Carrie Mae Merriweather Athens Carrie Mae "Kitty" Merriweather, 79, of 165 Winston Drive died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998. A native of Clarke County, Miss Merriweather was a daughter of the late Carrie Meal and William Merriweather. She was a member of Hill First Baptist Church. A native of Madison, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Carolyn Moore Jones. She was a retired secretary with Sears Roebuck, Atlanta, and was a Presbyterian. Jones, Toccoa; and a niece, Jodi Jones Boyd, Alpharetta. The Rev. Walter Smith Athens The Rev. Walter Smith, 81, of 1692 E. Broad St. died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998. A native of Greene County, the Rev. Smith was a son of the late Cebe Smith and Lizzie Evans Willis. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church East, served as pastor of White Chapel Baptist Church from 1984-1994, was retired after 25 years from Sunshine Cleaners and was a member of Mount Sion Lodge 370. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Baptist Church East with the Rev. Mark A. Weaver Sr. officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Gold Walton Sr. Washington The Rev. Gold Lee Walton Sr., 85, of 308 Walton Road died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998. A native of Wilkes County, the Rev. Walton was a son of the late Tom and Mattie Maude Walton. He was a member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Nebo Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Westmoreland Toccoa Lonnie Lloyd Westmoreland, 85, of 148 Gardenia Ave. N.W., Cleveland, Tenn., died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998. A native of Stephens County, Mr. Westmoreland was a son of the late Arthur G. and Minnie Westmoreland. An Army veteran of World War II, he was owner and operator of Royal Cleaners in Toccoa for 37 years and a member of Toccoa Creek Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Savage officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
