A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Arnold was a daughter of the late Thomas Walton and Mary McGinnie Moore. She was a church secretary and was a member of Mizpah Presbyterian Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mizpah Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Michael Pike and Dayton Logan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Survivors include a sister, Julia Moore Adams, Athens; a brother, Tom Ross Moore, Athens; and nieces and nephews. Banks Royston Pauline C. Banks, 75, of 234 Turner St., Apt. B-3, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998. A native of Banks County, Mrs. Banks was a daughter of the late Ira O. Chambers and Beulah Chambers and was the widow of James T. Banks. She was a grocery store clerk and was a member of the World Wide Church of God, Spartanburg, S.C. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Spartanburg. Survivors include a son, John Nicholson, Royston; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Pruitte Funeral Home. Erford H. Fitzgerald Akin, Ill. Erford H. Fitzgerald, 78, formerly of Cornelia, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998. A native of Habersham County, Mr. Fitzgerald was a son of the late Will and Ethel James Fitzgerald and was the widower of Monteen Wade Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by two step-sons. He was a school bus driver and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he received the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with one silver star. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Whitfield Funeral Home with the Revs. Burt Crawford and Matt Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Wade Cemetery with military honors conducted by members of the Grant Reeves Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7720. A native of Habersham County, Ms. Gragg was a daughter of the late Shuford and Viola Tomlin Eller. She was of the holiness faith. The family will receive friends from 8:30-10 a.m. today at the funeral home. Sallie Mae Horne Eastpoint Sallie Mae Horne, 54, of 2791 Pinenelley Circle died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998. Mrs. Horne was a daughter of John S. Pittman and the late Corine Pittman, Commerce, and was the widow of David Horne. She attended Madison County public schools where she was a member of the dramatic club, Homemakers of America and the school chorus. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from Albany State College and a Masters degree in Sociology from Atlanta University. She worked in the senior citizen division of the Atlanta Housing Authority until her retirement. She was a member of Hozey Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Stewardess Board and the church choir. She was a former member of Rogers Chapel Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Rogers Chapel Church, Commerce, with the Rev. Scotty Randolph officiating. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Survivors, in addition to her father, include a daughter, Saunja Horne, Eastpoint; two sons, Press Scott Horne and Sancho David Horne, both of Eastpoint; three brothers, Otis C. Forestglen Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Carlton J. Loyal Athens Carlton J. Loyal, 32, of 110 Cavalier Court died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998. A native of Atlanta, Mr. Loyal was a son of Joseph P. Loyal and Shirley A. Edward Loyal. He was a 1984 graduate of Clarke Central High School and was employed with Brinks Security as a technician. He served 10 years in the U.S. Air Force. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Nations with the Rev. Tracy C. Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. "Doc" and Alphonsia Jane Cotton Watson and was the widow of Ralph Woodrow Patterson. She was preceded in death by a son, Grady Mack Pitts. A native of Madison County, Mr. Patterson was a son of the late Redden Abner and Lucy Viola Latty Patterson and was the widower of Theadora D. Patterson. She was preceded in death by a son, William Redden Patterson. He was a graduate of Colbert School and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service and was formerly employed with Louis T. Klauder and Associates, a rapid transit consulting firm based in Philadelphia, Pa. He was a retired Field Supervisor for BellSouth and was a member of the Pioneers, the San Marino Lodge No. 34 and the Holiday Ramblers. Sims, 65, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998. Mr. Sims was a son of the late James V. and Lillian M. Sims. He was a retired employee of General Motors where he worked for 30 years and was an Air Force veteran. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Carter Hill, and was a member of Hebron Christian Church. Taylor Crawfordville Annie Boswell Taylor, 86, of 1345 Robinson Church Road died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998. A native of Greene County, Mrs. Taylor was a daughter of the late W. H. Boswell and Coma Edwards Boswell and was the widow of J. Milton Taylor. She was a retired school teacher from Greene and Taliferro County schools and was a member of the Retired School Association. Wheeler Athens William Gilmore Wheeler, 88, of 160 Cedar Creek Drive died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998. A native of New York, Mr. Wheeler was one of the last survivors of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, freedom fighters of the Spanish Civil War. An interview regarding this experience was conducted last year and will be aired during Celebration 2000 by ABC television network. He served as a First Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Veterans for Peace organization. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Survivors include his wife, Ione Lane Wheeler; and a daughter Lauren Wheeler Harris, of the home. Wilkes Jr. Athens Arthur Wilburn Wilkes Jr., 61, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998. A native of Muscogee County, Dr. Wilkes was a son of the late Arthur Wilburn Wilkes Sr. and Frances Snell Wilkes, Columbus and Newnan. He was a graduate of Columbus High School, Emory at Oxford College and Emory University School of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry for thirty years in Monroe. He was an active participant of the civil rights movement, was involved in the Monroe community theatre and was an avid sailor. In fulfillment of his long-standing wish, Dr. Wilkes body was donated to medical science through the Medical College of Georgia. A memorial reception will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 498 Prince Ave., Athens. Survivors include two daughters, Cydney Wilkes, New York City, and Leslie Wilkes, San Francisco; and a sister, Dyan Potts, Newnan.
