Reed Bryant, 57, formerly of Toccoa, died Thursday, May 28, 1998. A native of Stephens County, Mrs. Bryant was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Della Marie Ramey Cheek. James Bryson Washington Dr. James Turner Bryson, 78, 106 Barksdale Drive died Saturday, May 30, 1998. A native of Morgan County and a resident of Washington for 58 years, Dr. Bryson was a son of the late Marian Turner and Lady Ruth Smith Bryson. He was a retired veterinarian and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Dr. Bryson served on the city council of Washington from 1959 to 1963. He was the driving force behind the restoration of the Callaway Plantation for the City of Washington. He was a member of the Washington-Wilkes Airport Commission from its inception in 1963 until January 1998. Dr. Bryson was a founding father and member of the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce and Washington-Wilkes Historical Society. He was appointed to serve on the Georgia Historical Commission from 1965 to 1975. Dr. Bryson was also a founding father of the Georgia Historic Trust for Historical Preservation. He also served on the Georgia Review Board for the National Register of Historic Properties, the Mary Willis Library Board, and as the chairman of the Wilkes County Board of Health. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Washington, with the Revs. Ryan Seawright, Grady Mosely and Bill Boyd officiating. The family will receive friends at Hopkins Funeral Home, Washington, from 7-9 p.m. today. Oliver Coleman Jr. Athens Oliver M. Coleman Jr., 69, died Sunday, May 24, 1998. As a teacher, visual artist, administrator and advisor, Mr. Coleman served the University of Georgia from 1965 to 1991. He was instrumental in setting up the Scientific Illustration program and the computer laboratory for the Lamar Dodd School of Art. He received numerous awards for his artwork and was also awarded the Sandy Beaver Award for teaching excellence. Before arriving at the university, he taught in Clayton and DeKalb counties, and was a co-founder of the Delcraft Graphic Arts Company. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948. As a visual artist, Mr. Coleman worked in many media, from acrylic painting, print-making and cast plastic sculpture to wood and stone carving. His latest works were in computer graphics and large-scale sculpture in mixed media. He was inspired by subjects as diverse as mythology and genetic engineering. In October 1997, he showed his most recent pieces in a one man show entitled Mermaids, Masks & Miscellany at the Su'il Studio in Athens. He had retired from Tugalo Construction with 20 years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
