LEADSTORIES Story last updated at 8:19 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 1999 Clyde Williams Stamey Greenville, S.C. Clyde Williams Stamey, 76, formerly of Clarkesville, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999. A native of Habersham County, Mr. Stamey was a son of the late Jake W. and Cordlia Thomas Stamey and was the widower of Margaret Stamey. He was retired from the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, and was of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Austin Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Clarkesville Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Bobby Stamey, Texas; three sisters, Carolyn S. Whisnant, Demorest, Alice Ward, Clarkesville, and Mary Yarnell, Seaburn, Fla.; and a brother, Willie Bill Stamey, Toccoa. The family is at the residence of Velma Franklin, 249 Myrl St., Cornelia, and will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
