Services will be at 1 p.m. today in the Willis Chapel of Mack and Payne Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dwight Sims officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. He is survived by his parents, Sarah and Edward Gary of Athens; grandmother, Lottie Mae Cooper; daughter, Marie Gary; son, Peter Gary; three sisters, Gail Burgess and Clara Gary, both of Athens, and Virgil Gary of College Park; brother, Telfred Gary of Athens; special friend, Carlos Long; nieces and nephews. Ulysses Henson Athens Ulysses Henson, 95, of 200 Mission Drive, died Thursday, May 27, 1999. He was a native of Wilkes County and the son of the late Andrew and Georgia Wilborn Henson. He was a member of Ila Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Little Valley Baptist Church in Center, with the Rev. L.T. Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Jimmie L. Henson of Athens; a son, Rollie Hanson of Atlanta; a daughter, Doris Payne of Union Point; a brother, Robert Henderson of Athens; a sister, Julia Henson of Athens; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Jackson-McWhorter Funeral Home tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. Etta Lee Loggins Mount Airy Etta Lee Loggins, 90, died Sunday, May 30, 1999. A native of Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Oscar and Laura Grant House. She was preceded in death by her husband William "Bill" Fulton Loggins and her brother Albert House. She was a member of Good News Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Good News Baptist Church, with the Revs. Austin Kelly, Neil King and Gene Batson officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Willie Loudermilk of Cornelia; a stepdaughter, Lurie Garrett of Gainesville; sons Joseph Loggins, John E. Loggins, James H. Loggins and David Glenn Loggins, all of Mount Airy; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, several stepgrandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. Elliott Moorer Lavonia Elliott Moorer, 79, of 70 Hicks Circle, died Saturday, may 29, 1999. A native of Orangeburg, S.C., he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bill Moorer. A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Wilburn C. Hood and Mattie L. Highland Hood. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Parker, and her husband, Bennett C. Murray. She was a homemaker and a member of the Harmony Christian Church of Maysville Road. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home in Commerce, with the Rev. Jerry Payne officiating. Burial will be in the Harmony Christian Church cemetery. She is survived by a brother, W.C. Hershel Satterfield Commerce Hershel Satterfield, 86, of 147 South Victoria St., died Monday, May 31, 1999. A native of White County, Ga., he was the son of the late Octavie Dunnigan Satterfield and Jim Satterfield. Retired from Chicopee Mills, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Bell Thomas Satterfield. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home in Commerce, with the Rev. Don Paulson officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce. He is survived by daughters, Shirley Huskins of Smyrna and Ann Nicholson of Dalton; and brothers Carl Satterfield of Tucson and Guy Satterfield of Travelers Rest, S.C. Polly Strickland Royston Polly Adams Strickland, 81, of 716 Lee St., Royston, died Sunday, May 30, 1999. Born in Hart County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar L. and Susie Starr Adams. She was for many years a Baptist Sunday school teacher. She was the manager of the Royston Elementary School lunchroom for 27 years. She and her late husband, Martin Strickland, worked with the Cub Scout and church youth for many years. An active volunteer, she was one of the first drivers for Meals on Wheels, helped organize the Red Cross Grey Ladies Volunteers, began the local chapter of Overeaters Anonymous and began a hobby club which met in the Royston Elementary School lunchroom. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at the Pruitte Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Danny Barton and the Rev. Timothy Sangster officiating. Burial will follow in the Starr family cemetery. The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive visitors from 1:30 to 3 p.m. today. Survivors include three sons; David Luther Strickland of Tucker, Hubert Adams Strickland of Blakely and William "Bill" Max Strickland of Cornelia; a sister, Sue Thackston of Greenville, S.C.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Royston Baptist Church Building Fund. Allen Turpen Riverdale Allen Turpen, 56, formerly of Athens, died Sunday, May 30, 1999. A singer and entertainer, he was also know as Al Hartley. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Tara Garden Chapel in Jonesboro, with the Rev. Hinton Harris officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens, with the Rev. Barney Johns officiating. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Turpen of Riverdale; daughters, Debbie Barfield of Griffin and Rebekah Moreland of McDonough; a son, Allen Renny Turpen of Moultrie; sisters, Linda LaFond of Jacksonville, Fla., and Linda Cook of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; brothers, Richard Turpen of Jacksonville, Fla., and Tony Turpen of Jonesboro; and six grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Ann Willett Athens Ann Mallinson Willet, 76, died Saturday, May 29, 1999. A native of New Jersey, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Claire Marie Painter Mallinson and the widow of the late Francis Willet. A resident of Athens since 1956, she held bachelor of science and a master's degree in home economics from the University of Georgia, where she was a professor of home economics for 25 years. She was a past officer of the Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Jeanette Rankin Scholarship Foundation and a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and Phi Kappa Phi. Mrs. Willet was past Regent of the Elijah Clark Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was instrumental in establishing hospice care in Athens. She was a member of The University of Georgia Catholic Center. A funeral mass will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Lord and Stephens East chapel, with the Rev. Jack McDowell officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Kathryn W. Gnall of Aurora, Colo.; a son, David A. Willett of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Knights of Columbus and Chester Sosebee. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Mary's Hospice or the University of Georgia Catholic Center.
