Robert Bittle Augusta Dr. C. Robert Bittle, 78, of 3566 Pebble Beach Drive died Thursday, July 1, 1999. A native of Charlotte, N.C., Dr. Bittle was a physician specializing in anesthesiology and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, North Augusta, S.C. He attended Duke University and was a 1952 graduate of Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 36th Texas Infantry and Company M-141st Infantry. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Platt's Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Freed officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Memorial Gardens, North Augusta, S.C. Survivors include his wife, Freda Pate Bittle; three daughters, Terry Tostie, Louisville, Ky., Donna Sams, Elizabethton, Tenn., and Valarie Smith, Athens; a sister, Martha Clark, Hendersonville, N.C.; a brother, Rudy Bittle, Stillwater, Okla.; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Brian Smith, Curt Tostie, Cecil Clark, Dan Layman, Cecil Collins, Ron Veasey and Wade Thompson. Hazel Black Garrett Toccoa Hazel Black Garrett, 81, formerly of Cornelia, died Thursday, July 1, 1999. A native of Habersham County, Mrs. Garrett was the widow of Raymond Garrett. She was retired after a number of years as cook for Cornelia Kiwanis Club at Cornelia Community House. She was of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Curtis Woods officiating. Burial will be in Level Grove Cemetery. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Maude L. Harris Athens Mrs. Maude L. Harris, age 87, 127 Lucy Lane, Athens died July 1, 1999. A native of Gwinnett County, Mrs. Harris had lived in Athens for the past 25 years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eddie Martin, her parents, Paul T. and Sarah Martin and was the widow of the late Sterling Harris. She was a founding member of the Mall Walkers of Athens and was a longtime member of the Mount Harmony Baptist Church while living in Atlanta. She was presently a member of the Beech Haven Baptist Church in Athens where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Survivors include one son, Paul T. Martin, Athens; Brother, Hulon Lockridge, Atlanta; 2 sisters, Estelle Lindsey, Conyers and Nell Betenbaugh, Smyrna; Grandson, Michael Martin, Athens and Great Grand Daughter, Kelly Elizabeth Martin, Athens. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday from the Beech Haven Baptist Church, in Athens, with Dr. Stewart Simms officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00pm at the Crest Lawn Cemetery in Atlanta with Rev. Bob Baxter officiating. The family will receive friends at the Bernstein Funeral Home, in Athens, from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening. Helton Jr. Baldwin Hershel G. Helton Jr., 54, died Thursday, July 1, 1999. A native of Union County, Mr. Helton was a son of the late Hershel G. Sr. and Grace May Helton. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Ray Helton. he was a truck driver employed by Brock's Trucking Co. and was of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Baldwin Church of God with the Revs. Danny O'Kelly and Bobby Burke officiating. Burial will be in Baldwin Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Heaton Helton; two sons, Greg Helton, Baldwin, and Jerry Lee Helton, Clarkesville; three sisters, Doris Poore and Joyce Helton, both of Anniston, Ala., and Betty Moore, Boaz, Ala.; a brother, Jerry Looney, Anniston; and five granddaughters. A native of Pawtuckett, R.I., Mr. McChrystal was a son of the late John and Margaret Crompton McChrystal. He was retired from Athens Regional Medical Center and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church and the Golden Boys Sunday School Class. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Collins McChrystal; two daughters, Pamela Holland, Seneca, S.C, and Karen M.
