A native of Franklin County, Mr. Akin was a son of the late Joseph Edwin and Gazelle South Akin. He was a graduate of Georgia Southern College and was a former teacher and coach in the Gwinnett and Franklin County school systems. He was a breeder hen producer for Fieldale Farms and was a member of Broad River Baptist. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Patience Whitfield. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, with the Revs. Ernest Ivester and Bobby Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Franklin Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Bryant Akin, Martin; three daughters, Gwen Forester and Lydia Bennett, both of Martin, and Sherry Whitfield, Gillsville; two sons, Keith Akin and Alan Akin; four brothers, Pruitt Akin, Martin, Morris Akin, Loganville, Hubert Akin, Danielsville, and Dan Akin, Gainesville; a sister, Myra Ann Akin Mills, Salisbury, Md.; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Don Milford, Jerry South, Charles Akin, James LeCroy, Dwight Eavenson, Randall Landers, Willie Jordan, and William Weaver. The family is at the residence and will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Thomas Bailey Hartwell Thomas Everson Bailey, 68, of 266 George Burns Lane, died Saturday, May 1, 1999. A native of Hart County, Mr. Bailey was a son of Cullen Bailey, Hartwell, and the late Ruth Griffin Bailey. He was retired from Textiles, was the former owner/operator of Bailey's Exxon, and operated Bailey's Sports and Sales. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Adams. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Hartwell, with the Revs. Randall Starrett, Charles White, Donnie Fowler, and Reggie Rowland officiating. Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Myrtie Ruth Hicks Bailey, Hartwell; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Barry and Kathy Bailey, Hartwell; two brothers, Kenneth Bailey and Ray Bailey, both of Hartwell; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family is at the residence of Myrtie Ruth Bailey, 3973 Mount Olivet Road, Hartwell. Doris Higginbotham Elberton Doris Mildred Freeman Higginbotham, 81, of 1050 Petersburg Road, died Friday, April 30, 1999. A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Higginbotham was a daughter of the late Luther Lee Freeman and Buford Missouri Davis Freeman. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Elberton. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Calvary Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bill Lowe officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery, Elberton. Survivors include her husband, Carl Talmadge Higginbotham, Elberton; a daughter, Ann Higginbotham Looney, Elberton; two sons, Glenn Rodney Higginbotham, Athens, and Carl Lee Higginbotham, Atlanta; a brother, Roy Lee Freeman, Yucca Valley, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Jean Rothstein Moses Washington Jean Rothstein Moses, 74, of 226 Victory Lane, died Saturday, May 1, 1999. A native of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Moses was a daughter of the late Alfred and Fanny Wice Rothstein and was the widow of Alfred Moses. She was a homemaker, lived in Washington for over 40 years, and was active in the Washington Little Theater. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at the residence. Survivors include a son, Jeff Moses, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Vicky Lyn Moses, Washington; a brother, Herman Rothstein, Atlanta; a sister Niecie Goldstein, Yonkers, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. He was retired from Dean Witter, Chattanooga, Tenn., and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by a brother, W. C. Noell Jr. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Salem Cemetery, Lexington, with the Rev. Clayton Sanders officiating. Survivors include his wife, Louise Howard Noell, Graysville, Tenn.; a daughter, Karen Noell, Chattanooga, Tenn.; a nephew, Jim Noell, Ocala, Fla.; and three nieces, Bette Nielson, Athens, Carla Maxey, Watkinsville, and Elaine Horton, Ringgold. Wang Athens Dr. Marian M. Wang died Saturday, May 1, 1999. A native of China, Dr. Wang was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Wang. She received her doctorate in biochemistry from Penn State University, State College, Penn., and was a former educator at Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind., and the University of California at Los Angeles. A specialist in nutrition, she retired last year as a professor from the University of Georgia. She was a member of a number of professional organizations. Services will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills, Calif. Survivors include three brothers, four sisters, four nephews, and four nieces.
