A native of Blue Mountain, Miss., Mrs. Shaw was a daughter of the late Mark Lowery Haynie Sr. and Mattie Mitchell Haynie, and was the widow of Carl O. Shaw. She was a retired school teacher and member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Dorcas Sunday school class, the 220 Fellowship, the Singing Saints and the Ladies Prayer Group. She was a former member of the Natchez Garden Club and pianist for the First Baptist Church of Vidalia, La. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry King officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Natchez, Miss. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Blakeney, Fairview, Tenn.; a son, Billy Shaw, Toccoa; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family is at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Shaw, 110 Elm Drive, Toccoa, and will receive friends from 3-5 and 7-9 today at Whitlock Mortuary. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Nash was a son of the late Charlie Jackson and Rebecca Slay Nash, was the widower of Edna Fleming Nash, and was preceded in death by a son, Kyle Nash. He was a retired stone polisher and honorably discharged World War II Army Air Corp veteran. He wa also a member of Stinchcomb United Methodist Church. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Hicks Funeral Home with Rev. Marshall Tribble officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Survivors include sister, Mamie Bowen, Atlanta; five nieces, three nephews; and four sisters-in-law. The family is at the residence. Walter Savannah Dr. Nellie Rucker Walter, 84, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999. A native of Athens, Mrs. Walter was a daughter of the late Lamar Cobb Rucker and Nita Black Rucker, and was the widow of Henry Alexander Walter. She was a graduate of the Lucy Cobb Institute, the Hannah Moore Academy, the University of Georgia, and the University of Heidelberg, Germany. She had a Ph.D in Natural Sciences and taught at Putnam Vocational High School in Massachusetts, where she was a member of the Wood Hole Country Club. She was of the Episcopalian faith. Private services will be held in Oconee Hill Cemetery, Athens. Survivors include a daughter, Nita Walter McAdams, Portland, Ore.; three sons, Dr. Henry A. Walter Jr., Richardson, Texas, Lamar Cobb Walter, Savannah, and Peter R. Walter, Northfield, Mass.; and three grandchildren. Tompkins Sr. She was retired from Jackson Electric Corp. and was a member of the First Christian Church of Jefferson. Mrs. Jones, a life-long resident of Madison County, was the daughter of the late James Wesley and Beulah Chandler Holcomb, and was the widow of Grady Thomas Jones. A brother, Watson H. Holcomb, and a sister, Selena Lampkin, preceded her in death. She was retired from the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was the church pianist for several years. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Gerald Torbert of Greensboro; two sisters, Ruby H. Matthews, Hull, and Margie H. Jones, Athens; one brother, James A. Holcomb, Athens; three grandchildren, David Torbert, Greensboro, Kelly Torbert Hayes, Greensboro, and Tammy Torbert Manley, Anniston, Ala.; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, with the Rev. Bill Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
