Mrs. McLane was a daughter of the late Tom and Susie Hughes Morris. She was born at her parent's home outside of Murphy, N.C., on Aug. 22, 1916. She lived in Murphey until she met and married her late husband, Horace J. McLane, on Oct. 19, 1940. After living for 10 years in Murphy, they moved to Athens, where she remained for 43 years. While most of her years were spent as a homemaker, she worked for a number of years at the J.C. Penney store in downtown Athens. Her last residence in Athens was Lanier Gardens. She was a member of Forest Heights Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday school class there. She moved to McKinney, Texas, in 1996, where she resided at Colonial Lodge and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East. Burial will be in Nancy Hart Memorial Park, Hartwell. Survivors include her son, Ray, and his wife, Jean, in McKinney Texas, and three grandchildren: Jay McLane, Orlando, Fla.; Jill Burton, Boca Raton, Fla.; and Julie English, Plano, Texas. She had one great-granddaughter, Madison McLane English. A nephew, Bill Hembree, of Murphy, N.C., and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Morris of Marble, N.C., also survive her.
