Anderson Winterville Wilna Jean Jones Anderson, 74, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999. A native of Centralia, Ill., Mrs. Anderson was a daughter of the late Edward and Gertrude Jones. She was retired from the Civil Service working with the Third Army. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Church of the Nations with the Revs. Mel Holmes and Robert McAndrew officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Canto, Winterville; two sons, Alan Anderson, Norcross, and Bill Anderson, Watkinsville; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The family is at the Winterville residence and will receive friends after the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association or to a local charity of choice. Johnny Blakey Hartwell Johnny Thomas Blakey, 67, of 1806 Friendship Road died Thursday, May 6, 1999. A native of Wilkes County, Mr. Blakey was a son of the late John Ben and Mattie Blackmon Blakey. He was retired from Franklin Mineral Products/Engelhard Corp. in maintenance. He was a member of Bio Baptist Church and was a former deacon and member of the Men's Sunday School class. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Bio Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Louise Looney Blakey; five sisters, Thelma Hadden, La Port, Ind., Sara Morrow, Elberton, Lela Davis and Alice Phelps, both of Apollo Beach, Fla., and Jean Wylds, Augusta; and a brother, John Floyd Blakey, Tignall. The family is at the residence and will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Phil Bradford Jr. Gainesville Phil Bradford Jr., 71, of Holly Drive died Thursday, May 6, 1999. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Bradford was a son of the late Phillip Robert and Nona Rucker Bradford. He was in the poultry and egg business for 24 years and also worked in land sales and the timber business. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp., was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Lavonia High School and the University of Georgia. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Fields officiating. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Allen Bradford; two daughters and son-in-laws, Jan Marie and Rodney Poole, Statesboro, and Kay Anne and Jerry Hulsey, Gainesville; a sister, Alex Kidd, Lavonia; and three grandchildren, Jessica Moses, Gainesville, Bradford Poole and Madison Poole, both of Statesboro. Box 1546, Gainesville, Ga. 30503. Ardell Chambers Comer Ardell Cornelia McLeroy Chambers, 78, of 68 Chambers Lane died Wednesday, May 5, 1999. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Chambers was a daughter of the late Melvin Hollis and Mary Brown McLeroy and was the widow of Ralph Thomas Chambers. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Daisy Mae Chambers Bailey. She was retired from Colbert Manufacturing Company and was of the Holiness faith as the oldest charter member of Macedonia Independent Holiness Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Macedonia Independent Holiness Church with the Revs. Ardis Anglin and William Anglin officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Meadow Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia I. Chambers Scarboro, Royston; two sons, L.C. Chambers and Mickey Chambers, both of Comer; four granddaughters; eight great-granddaughters; and two great-great-granddaughters. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Edwards was a son of the late Samuel Preston and Della Church Edwards. He was retired from Jackson Electric Membership Corp. and was a member of Faith Baptist Church and Unity Masonic Lodge 36. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Evans Funeral Home with the Revs. Gerald Mitton and Joe Hardy officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Billie Maddox Edwards; a daughter, Gayle Weems, Gainesville; a son, Robert W. Edwards, Jefferson; four brothers, William F. Tyner Jr. Alto Tolley "Tony" Pitts Tyner Jr., 38, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999. A native of Greenwood, S.C., Mr. Tyner was a son of Nan Dove Timmerman and the late Tolley Pitts Tyner Sr. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Stephanie Nicholson. He was an employee at Mount Vernon Mills with 10 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Whitfield Funeral Home. Burial will be in Baldwin City Cemetery.
