A native of Stephens County, Mrs. Fowler was a daughter of the late Clayton C. and Ethel Young Davis and was the widow of General L. Fowler. She was preceded in death by two sons, Cecil ''Pete'' and Tommy Lee Fowler. She was a practical nurse and worked in central supply at Georgia Baptist Hospital. LEADSTORIES Story last updated at 9:27 a.m. on Friday, October 8, 1999 Florice Diel Davis Neal Greensboro Florice Diel Davis Neal was born May 23, 1916 in Doerun, Georgia, the oldest of seven children, to Maxon Davis and Carrie B. Ansley Davis. She married the late James Neal in 1935 and to the union was born one child, Nadene Lenester. She joined the C.M.E. Church in Doerun, GA, at an early age. When the family moved to Thomasville, GA she joined the St. James Primitive Baptist Church where she served faithfully until she moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. While in Ft. Lauderdale, She joined the New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. She served in many capacities including, mother of the church, President of the Floral Committee, Matron Mother, Training Union President, Teacher (Children Christian Education), Choir #1/Ward #1 Financial Secretary, Sunday School and Bible School Teacher. When she moved to Greensboro, GA she joined White Plains Second Baptist Church, where she served in the Senior Choir, as Sunday School Teacher and a member of the 55 Plus Club. She loved and supported the pastors of the church and opened her home to them and their families. She was a member of several community organizations among them the N.A.A.C.P. where she served as Broward County Branch Secretary for 15 years. While serving in the N.A.A.C.P. she helped increase benefits and high wages for all minorities, in particular, those involved in domestic work. She was awarded distinguished and outstanding service awards from both the Broward County and Morgan County N.A.A.C.P. Branches. Other awards included outstanding service from the Davis Family and the New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. She was educated in the Public Schools of Doerun and Moultrie, GA. and did further studies through correspondence, where she received teachers' assistant certification. Her hobbies were many including: Reading, drawing, designing, crafts, and making others aware of the goodness of God.
