She was a member of First Baptist Church of Powder Springs and of the Achievers Sunday School Class. Services were Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Woods and Alan Davis officiating. Burial was in Powder Springs Cemetery. A native of Hancock County, Mrs. Ashley was a daughter of the late Oatis and Annie Toulson Brookins and was the widow of Roy Ashley. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women with a bachelor of science degree in education. She was a principal and school teacher at Gum Hill School, Penfield School, Greensboro High School, White Plains School and Nathanael Greene Academy. She attended the 10th District A & M School, Granite Hill. She was a member of White Plains Baptist Church and Georgia Retired Teachers Association. Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at White Plains Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Norman Waldrip officiating. Burial was in White Plains Cemetery. Mrs. Cochran was a daughter of the late Carl Lee and Lida Bell Wiley Butler and was the widow of George M. Cochran Jr. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1931 and was a teacher and librarian in Georgia schools. Her volunteer services included library and reading services, the Council on Aging, Girl Scouts, music activities and church work. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the first floor assembly room of Lanier Gardens. Graveside services will be in the early afternoon Dec. 18 at Oak City Cemetery, Bainbridge. Survivors include a daughter, Claire Swann, Athens; a son, George M. Peterson, age 90, of Athens, Georgia died Wednesday, November 17, 1999. Mr. Peterson was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Augusta and John Peterson, who was a native of Stockholm, Sweden. Mr. Peterson was a noted high school hockey and football player who played hockey in the St. Paul industrial leagues until he was in his mid 30's. He was a member of the St. Paul Rowing Club and participated in regattas throughout the upper Midwest and Canada. Mr. Peterson, who lived in several cities in the Midwest, spent his career in the insurance industry, primarily with the Ohio Casualty group where his last position was manager of the downstate Illinois branch in Springfield, Illinois. In 1974, he and his wife retired to Athens, Georgia where he was an active member of Beech Haven Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Mary T. Peterson, and by four brothers. He is survived by two sons and their families, Jerry and Molly Peterson, and their children Dorothy, Nancy, and Hill, Atlanta, Georgia, and Dan and Hillary Peterson, and their children Lauren and Michael, Prescott, Arizona, by his brother Merrill F. Peterson, St. Paul, Minnesota, and by numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 1999 at Beech Haven Baptist Church. A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Little was the daughter of the late William Paul and Bertha Camp Martin and was the widow of Jeff Turner Little, who died June 28, 1999. She was a retired Educational Secretary for the Richmond County Board of Education in Augusta, having worked with the system for 25 years. Before moving to Athens Mrs. Little was an active member of Harlem United Methodist Church, Harlem Woman's Club, and helped found the Harlem Library. After moving to Athens, she became active in several community activities and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was an artist and loved to paint in watercolor. She loved the beauty of nature and its seasonal expressions of color. Her most recent project was in being instrumental in the planting of Bradford pear trees, which line both sides of the entrance into Homewood Hills. Survivors include two daughters, Carole L. Partridge, Newark, Delaware and Rebecca L. Snow, Athens; two sons-in-law, Fletcher W. Partridge, Newark, Delaware and Ralph M. Snow, Jr., Athens; six grandchildren, Holly P.
