Burroughs Nicholson Onie P. Burroughs, 91, died Monday, August 9, 1999. A native and life long resident of Jackson County, Mrs. Burroughs was a daughter of the late Willis and Ida Kesler Pittman and was the widow of J.B. Burroughs. She was a member of the Gordon's Chapel United Methodist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Gordon's Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Allen Seagraves officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include two brothers, Doyle Pittman, Nicholson, and Ed Pittman, Hull; nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jerry Adams, Lee Adams, Bobby Pittman, Otis Barnett Jr., Mike Pittman and David Hawks. Cornelia Cason Madison Cornelia Cason died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999. Mrs. Cason was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman A. Bruce and was the widow of Thomas Lewis Cason. Services were this morning at Madison First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Kerr officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Cason, Gainesville; two sons, Bruce Cason, Monroe, and Kevin Cason, Lawrenceville; a sister, Louise Ayers, Hartwell; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Meadows Funeral Home, Monroe, is in charge of the arrangements. Louise Chastain Elberton Louise Chastain, 83, of 2694 Chastain Road died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999. A native of Elbert County, Ms. Chastain was a daughter of the late Tom and Beulah Bradford Chastain. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Hart officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Survivors include a brother, Fletcher Chastain, Elberton. Benjamin "Ben" Justice Gainesville Benjamin "Ben" Justice,78, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 1999. A native of Spartanburg, S.C. and a resident of Gainesville for the past 11 years, Mr. Justice was a son of the late James Madison and Margaret Ann Stepp Justice. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 years of service. He served as Chief Petty Officer during World War II on the USS Ranger CV-4 and the USS Improve. He also served as a Naval Advisor to the Turkish Navy and as a naval recruiter. Later he retired from United Technologies Corp. in Greensboro. Military graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Level Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Wasiluk officiating. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Hardy Justice; a daughter ,Brenda Louise McClure, Mableton; a son, Preston F. Justice, Gainesville; a granddaughter; nieces and nephews. Carl Mulchi Mount Airy Carl Mulchi, 61, died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999. A native of North Carolina, Mr. Mulchi was a son of Annie Elliott Mulchi and the late Herman Clifton Mulchi. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Lee Mulchi. He was a truck driver for Schneider Inc. and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Amy's Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Thomas Gragg and Avery Mote officiating. A military burial will be in the church cemetery. Perkins Clarkston Rose Ledford Perkins, 81, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999. She was the widow of David F. Wilson Shatterly, 90, of 2390 Davis Academy Road died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999. A native of Fulton County, Mrs. Shatterly was a daughter of the late William J. Wilson and Mary Helen Lambert and was the widow of Gurney Rex Shatterly Sr. She was a housewife. Smith, 81, of 138 Washington St. died Monday, August 9, 1999. A native of Jefferson, born March 4, 1918, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Dr. Sumner J. Smith and Ora Dyarman Smith. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Jefferson, American Legion, Jefferson Historical Society, Tumbling-Waters Society, and served on the Shields-Ethridge Farm Foundation Board. He also served on the Jackson County Literacy Board. Following graduation from Martin Institute and Young-Harris College, he taught school in Maysville, Ga. and in Sumter, S.C. He received his bachelors and masters degree from the University of Georgia where he taught french for five years. Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II where he served in the 121st infantry regiment of the 8th division. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry medal and a good conduct medal. He received a 121st Infantry Citizen of the Year award in 1996. He worked for D.C. Health Company where he sold textbooks to colleges and universities for 30 years. He was a benefactor of Young-Harris college, UGA, the Thornwell Home for Children in S.C. and gave money in support of the fight for Parkinson's Disease. He also gave 100 acres on Commerce Road for construction of Northminister Retirement Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson with Dr. John Homer, Rev. Stan Sizemore and Dr. William Thurman officiating. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery. He is survived by a special friend, Doug Rice and a number of relatives. Cecil G. Stanley Lavonia Cecil Glen Stanley, 83, of 10291 Georgia Highway 59 died Tuesday, August 10, 1999. A native of Blue Ridge in Fannin County, Mr. Stanley was a son of the late Oliver P. Stanley and Hattie Burleson Stanley. He was a retired textile worker and was of the Baptist faith. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hamby Funeral Home with the Revs. Jewell Gaines and Paul Jameson officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Gardens North. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. William Edwin Stockwell Alto William "Bill" Edwin Stockwell, 68, of Herring Mill Road died Tuesday, August 10, 1999. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mr. Stockwell was a son of the late Wilbur Edward and Edith Cummings Stockwell. He was a retired staff sergeant with the U.S. Air Force with 21 years of service. While in service he served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Private memorial services will be held at a later date in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Linda Stockwell; a daughter, Edith Reed Berndt; two stepdaughters, Robin Buffington and Martha Jo Brinson, both of Gainesville; a son, Edwin Wayne Stockwell, Homestead, Fla.; a sister, Eleanor Thomas, Creighton, Pa.; and six grandchildren.
