A native of Clarke County, Mr. Bales was retired from Snapper Power Equipment. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ward's Fairview Chapel with the Rev. Randy Reese officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Reynolds, Mansfield, Deborah Kelly, Covington, and Vicki Amerine, Locus Grove; a son, Lemie Bales Jr., Stockbridge; and a brother, Jonas Bales, Athens. The family will receive friend from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. `Jack' Mattox Jr. Stephens Will Tom "Jack" Mattox Jr., 57, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Mattox was a son of Will Tom Mattox Sr. of Stephens and the late Bertha Howard Mattox. He was a member of Clarke Grove Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. at Clarke Grove Baptist Church, Stephens, with the Rev. E. Kline officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Annie R. Mattox; two daughters, Angelia D. Nowell, Stephens, and Loretta Mattox, Crawford; three sons, Tommie Mattox, Athens, Roger Mattox, Crawford, and Jeffrey Mattox, Stephens; two sisters, Hattie Moore, Chicago, Ill., and Inell Wilhite, Athens; and a brother, Walter Lewis Mattox, Stephens. Jones Lexington Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Clara Maynard Winder Clara Maynard, 92, died Thursday, June 10, 1999. Mrs. Maynard was a daughter of the late Eugene and Della Cronic Cooper and was the widow of Horace L. Maynard. She was a homemaker and was a member of First Methodist Church for more than 65 years. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Rary officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Hatcher, Chamblee; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Louise Settle Winterville Martha Louise Settle, 87, of 855 Cherokee Road died Wednesday, June 9, 1999. A native of Madison County, Miss Settle was a daughter of the late Brantley Calloway and Lucy Emiline Tolbert Settle. She was a longtime resident of Winterville and was a retired teacher from Clarke County Board of Education with 42 years of service. She was a member of Athens Area Retired Teachers, Winterville Silver Hair Club, Elijah Clark Chapter NSDAR, Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and was a past member of GA Retired Teachers and Kappa Delta Pi. She was a member of Winterville First Baptist Church and the Marion Coile Sunday school class. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Revs. Claude McBride, Rick Standard and Edward Bolen officiating. Burial will be in Winterville Cemetery. Survivors include a sister, Lois Settle Matthews, Winterville; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Silver Hair Club and Marion Coile Sunday school class. Imogene Hawkins Sosebee Cornelia Imogene Hawkins Sosebee, 52, of Pebblebrook Lane died Thursday, June 10, 1999. A native of Cherokee, N.C., Mrs. Sosebee was employed by A.E. Gurtzel Co. with 12 years of service and was a member of Friendly Mission Baptist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Friendly Mission Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny O'Kelly officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Terrell Sosebeee; three sons, Johnny Wingo, Hartsville, S.C., Chris Sosebee, Gainesville and Jason Sosebee, Cornelia; two brothers, Ray Hawkins, Clermont, and Junior Hawkins, Covington; and four grandchildren. Cherry Ward Greensboro Cherry Mae Kilpatrick Ward, 59, of 4061 Union Point Highway died Sunday, June 6, 1999. A native of Taliaferro County, Mrs. Ward was a daughter of the late Mattie and Willie Kilpatrick. She was a member of New Springfield Baptist Church, Siloam, where she served on the usher board and was a member of senior choir. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Eric Calhoun officiating. The body will be placed in the church at noon. Burial will be in Saw Dust Cemetery, Siloam. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Williams was a son of the late William Wesley and Ella Dickson Williams and was the widower of Opal Elise Kesler Williams. He was a farmer and was retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp. of Athens. He was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cross Roads Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Bell officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Gardens. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Arden, Carnesville; a son, Kenneth Williams, Newnan; a sister, Eloise "Tootsie" Williams, Carnesville; two brothers, Marvin Williams, Martin, and Lee Williams, Carnesville; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
