Carrie Bess Brown, 59, formerly of Greene County, died Friday, June 4, 1999. Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late Myra and Horace Bess, and was the widow of Charles Brown Sr. She was a member of New Springfield Baptist Church, Siloam, before moving to Pittsburgh, Pa. She united with Ethnan Temple Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Wilkinsburgh, Pa., and served faithfully. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at New Springfield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roi Johnson officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Myra Bess, Ore.; two sons, Charles Brown Jr., Tenn., and Emmitt Brown, Pittsburgh, Pa.; four sisters, Clara Lumpkin, Woodville, Sarah Bess, Decatur, Viola Mapp and Jeffie Bess, Riverdale; two brothers, Horace Bess Jr., Fairburn, and Harold Bess, Jonesboro; 12 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Watts Funeral Home, Union Point, is in charge of the arrangements. Benton Charles Curtis Athens Benton Charles Curtis, 89, of 180 River Oak Way, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999. A native of Sterling, Ill., Mr. Curtis was a son of the late Simon and Fannie Millman Curtis, and was the widower of Roselyn Baer Curtis. He moved to Athens 5 1/2 years ago from Milwaukee, Wis., and was a retired clothing salesman. He was a member of the Congregation Children of Israel. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Congregation Children of Israel with Rabbi Ronald Gerson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Laurel and Dr. William Yen, Athens; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Bonnie Curtis, St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren, David Curtis, St. Petersburg, Fla., James Curtis, Milwaukee, Wis., and Jane Yen, Athens; and a great-grandchild, Jayme Lee Curtis, Milwaukee, Wis. Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Billie Maddox Edwards Jefferson Billie Maddox Edwards, 73, of 91 Ralph Garrison Road, died Friday, June 11, 1999. A native of Walton County, Mrs. Maddox was a daughter of the late Wiley and Lois Jones Maddox, and was the widow of Robert Edwards. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church, Jefferson. Services will be at 4:00 p.m. today at Evan Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Revs. Gerald Mitton and Joe Hardy officiating. Burial will be in the Oconee Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Gayle Weems, Gainesville; a son, Robert W. Edwards, Jefferson; a brother, Junior Maddox, Moultrie; and two grandchildren. Pallbearers will be members of Unity Lodge 36. Brenda Lee Holmquist Winterville Brenda Lee Holmquist, 32, of 190 Winter Circle, died Friday, June 11, 1999. A native of Galesburg, Minn., Mrs. Holmquist was a daughter of Spencer and Janet Thomas Holt, Georgetown, Ky. She was a former resident of Battle Creek, Mich., and had lived in Winterville for the past 3 1/2 years. She was a homemaker. Private services will be held at a later date. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Robert "Rob" Holmquist; a daughter, Amanda Holmquist, Winterville; and a brother, Timothy Holt, Georgetown, Ky. Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Clinton Lane Athens Clinton R. Lane, 73, of 149 South Stratford Dr., died Saturday, June 12, 1999. A native of Macon, Mr. Lane was a son of the late John Davis Lane and Marry Bell Jones Lane. He was a retired Naval Officer, former Executive Director of the Walton County Chamber of Commerce, and was Executive Director of the Northeast Georgia Planning and Development Commission, Athens, for 18 years. He was Vice President of Hayes James Associates, with whom he maintained an association until his death. He was a member of the host group for International Officers of the Naval Supply Corps School and a member of the Board of Advisors of the Northeast Georgia Police Academy. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church and was an active member of his condominium association. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church, with the Rev. G. Porter Taylor officiating. Private burial services will be held later that day in Monticello. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Lane, St. Simons Island; a daughter Sandra Dianne Martin, Hollywood, Fla.; two sons, Michael David Lane, Dallas, Tex., and John Dennis Lane, Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Jane Venetia Haskins, Macon; two aunts, Gladys J. Strong, Macon, and Nellie P.J. Ferguson, Citra, Fla.; an uncle, Frank Preston Lane, Gainesville; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall of the church following the service. Dorothy Beam Robinson Hartwell Dorothy Herndon Beam Robinson, 84, of 94 Cade St., formerly of Royston Highway, Canon, died Friday, June 11, 1999. A native of Hart County, Mrs. Robinson was a daughter of the late Will and Flora Brown Herndon, and was the widow of Clarence Beam and of George Robinson. She was retired from the Hart County School System, where she taught at Reed Creek and Airline schools, and was a member of the Hartwell First Baptist Church. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. today at the Northview Cemetery, with the Rev. F. Hugh Kirby officiating. Survivors include a son, Raymond M. Beam, Canon.
