A native of Gainesville, Mr. Beck was a son of the late Frank and Mary Flanagin Beck. He was a textile worker at Harmony Grove Hill. Services will be at 4:30 p.m. today at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Revs. Kenneth Dillard and Sam Dorsey officiating. Burial will be in Cabin Creek Baptist cemetery, Commerce. Survivors include his wife, Dora Mae Beck; four daughters, Annie Blanche Baker, Mrs. Edward Dorsey and Mrs. Samuel Dorsey, all of Commerce, and Mavis Barrett, Ninety Six, S.C.; two sons, Billy Beck, Commerce, and Donald Beck, Nicholson; five sisters, Sarah Culbertson and Eddie Pearl Wiley, both of Homer, Vernell Evans, Ear Belle Maney and Mamie Lou Turner, all of Commerce; three brothers, Curtis Beck, Jefferson, George Beck, Hull, and Rufus Beck, Commerce; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Marion Blackwell Toccoa Marion Luther Blackwell, 83, of 222 Braswell St., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999. A native of Lavonia and a longtime resident of Toccoa and Stephens County, Mr. Blackwell was a son of the late Henry and Lula Yearwood Blackwell and was the widower of Catherine Stephens Blackwell. He was retired from Toccoa Manufacturing Co., was a member of Welcome Faith Baptist Church, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Revs. Bill Trotter and Barney Gerrin officiating. Burial will be in Toccoa City Cemetery. Survivors include five daughters, Sue Riggan, Westminster, S.C., Charlene Peacock and Peggy McIntyre, both of Martin, Donna Maye, Kennesaw, Nadene Wong, Toccoa; six sons, Kenneth Blackwell, Douglas Blackwell, Donnie Blackwell and Tony Blackwell, all of Toccoa, Larry Blackwell, Clarkesville, and Ronnie Blackwell, Jefferson; a brother, Edgar Blackwell, Toccoa; 29 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Keith Blackwell, Jimmy Blackwell, Scott Wood, Scott Stone, Church Stephens and Michael Batson. The family is at the residence and will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Irene Brady Toccoa Irene Simmons Brady, 83, died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999. A lifelong resident of Stephens County, Mrs. Brady was a daughter of the late Russell O. and Maude Crenshaw Simmons. She was owner and operator of Irene's Beauty Shop for 35 years and was a member of Hill Street Baptist Church. Services will be at 8 p.m. today at Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Thomas officiating. Private burial will be in Toccoa City Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Randall, Key West, Fla., and DeLores Crosby, Toccoa; two sisters, Mattie Mullinix, Toccoa, and Dorothy Ledford, Marietta; two brothers, Albert Simmons and Donald Simmons, both of Toccoa; and three grandsons. Christopher Browner Toccoa Christopher Browner, 35, died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999. A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Mr. Browner was a son of Barbara Bryant and James Edsell, both of Philadelphia. He was a graduate of Stephens County High School and was a member of Trinity C.M.E. Church. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Trinity C.M.E. Church with the Rev. Robert Green officiating. Burial will be in Toccoa City Cemetery. A native of Lavonia, Mr. Gillespie was a son of the late Grady and Nannie Durham Gillespie He was employed by WEBCO in Toccoa and later retired from Lockheed in Marietta. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Hamby Funeral Home with the Rev. Darvin Slaton officiating. Burial will be in Hunter's Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Carnesville. Survivors include a sister, Belva Harris, Lavonia; a brother and sister-in-law, William "Bill" and Christine Gillespie, Cartersville; nieces and nephews. Goodrum Athens Gennelle McDaniel Goodrum, 72, of 3950 Jefferson Road, died August 11. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Goodrum had been a resident of Athens for most of her life. She was a daughter of the late James Thurmond and Desma Bryan Bridges and was a charter member of Covenant Worship Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, with the Rev. Jack Segars officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Vallye Garr Manley Griffin Vallye Garr Manley, 99, of 647 Patterson Road, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999. Mrs. Manley was a daughter of the late Louis Bartow Garr and Nancy Jane Shaw and was the widow of Jesse Ballard Manley. She was a member of Sunnyside United Methodist Church and served as treasurer for many years. She was active in the United Methodist Women of the Church and the Griffin District. She was a member of the Regent of the Polaski Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and was past president of the Griffin Women's Club. A native of Gordon County, Mrs. Parker was a daughter of the late Anderson and Ida Shirley Cragg and was the widow of Boyd O. Parker. She was preceded in death by a son, J.D. Parker. She was a homemaker and was a member of Enon Baptist Church. Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Enon Baptist Church with the Revs. Clyde Garrison and Loyd Martin officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Sarah Maxwell Robb Watkinsville Sarah Maxwell Robb, 81, of 2962 Flat Rock Road, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999. A native of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Robb was a daughter of the late Harry W. and Ellen McBride Maxwell and was the widow of Allyn David Robb. She was a graduate of the University of Arizona. She raised Hereford cattle, shorthorn cattle and registered quarterhorses and bloodhounds. She helped found and served on the Board of Directors of Oconee County Animal Control Board and operated the county's first animal shelter. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Red Cross and Johnson's United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, with the Rev. Bob Murphy officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Ellen M.
