He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, served in the U.S. Navy, retired as a Lt. Col. from the U.S. Army Reserves after 22 years of service, was active in Kiwanis, serving as president of four clubs and a lieutenant governor, was employed by Ralston Purina for 25 years, and was a member of First Methodist Church, Springdale, Ark. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Memorial Park, Athens. Survivors include a daughter, Jan English, Austin, Texas; two sons, Don Barnett, Dallas, Texas, and Dan Barnett, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters, Henrietta Foster, Athens, and Hazel Byington, Rome; and a grandson. A native of Morgan County, Mrs. Bearden was a daughter of the late Joshua Wheat and Ona Underwood and widow of Harvey J. Bearden. She was a homemaker, member of Women's Missionary Union at United Baptist Church, Atlanta, formerly Capitol View Baptist Church, and taught Sunday school for a number of years. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bethany Baptist Church, with the Revs. Sperry and Tom Duff officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
