Armistead Winder Thelma H. Armistead, 73, died Sunday, June 13, 1999. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Armistead was a daughter of the late Leonard and Amanda Marlow Hammond. She was a longtime resident of Barrow County and was a retired seamstress. She was a member of Winder First Baptist Church, where she attended Fidelis Sunday school class. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Carter Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Talley officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Survivors include her husband, Jack Armistead; a son, Charles Armistead, Winder; a sister, Darline Milford, Panama City, Fla.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Pauline Lily Atkinson Greensboro Pauline Lily Atkinson, 89, of 410 S. Main St., died Monday, June 14, 1999. A lifelong resident of Greene County, Ms. Atkinson was a daughter of the late William Lee and Hattie Cornelia Jackson Atkinson. She was a telephone operator for Southern Bell for 42 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Greensboro. She was a graduate of Moons Academy. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at McCommons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery. John Coffee Braswell Jr., 62, died Thursday, May 13, 1999. Born Dec. 9, 1937 in Athens, Mr. Braswell was a son of the late Lt. Jack Braswell of Athens and former advertising manager of the Athens Banner-Herald, and the late Nellie Goldstrin Braswell Leiker, formerly of Griffin, stepson of the late Victor C. Leiker of Atlantic Highlands, N.J., and grandson of the late former president and publisher of the Athens Banner-Herald, Earl B. Braswell. He died in his home after a long bout with cancer. Survivors include a sister, Lynn Braswell, New York, N.Y.; a half-brother, David Leiker, Independence, Va.; two uncles, Louis Goldstein, former mayor of Griffin, and Marvin Goldstein, formerly of Griffin; an aunt, Mrs. Cushman, Athens; cousins, Griffin. A native of Banks County, Mrs. Davis was a daughter of the late John C. and Sallie Shore Wood and was the widow of Elmer Davis. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Davis. She was retired from Commerce Sports Wear and was a lifetime member of Bethany Christian Church. He was retired as owner/operator of Lavender's Shoe Store and was a former member of Hartwell Lions Club. She was employed by the University of Georgia for 35 years and retired in 1982 from the University Bookstore.She was a member of the East Friendship Baptist Church.
