A native of Commerce, Mrs. Ayers was a daughter of the late William and Cora Duckett Crocker and was the widow of Lester Porter and Sterling Ayers. She was a textile worker for Harmony Grove Mills. Services were at 3 p.m. Friday at Commerce Church of God, with the Revs. John Webber and Lonnie Bennett officiating. Burial was be in Grey Hill, Commerce. Survivors include two stepdaughters, Mary Eden, North Carolina, and Barbara Ann Ayers, Atlanta; a son, L. Randall Porter, Commerce; three stepsons, Glenn Ayers, Gloyd Ayers and James Ayers, all of Commerce; and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ivie Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Gean McE. Bachelder Athens Gean Frank McElreath Bachelder, 74, of 110 Rossiter Court, died Sunday, May 9, 1999. A lifelong resident of Clarke County, Ms. Bachelder was a daughter of the late W.F. and Julia Belle Kittle McElreath. She was a housewife and of the Episcopal faith. She was a graduate of Athens High School and attended the University of Georgia. She was a member of Elks Ladies Aidmore, St. Mary's Auxiliary and Athens Historical Society. Memorial services will be at noon Monday at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia Day Chapel, with the Rev. Asa Dorsey officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery. "Don" Davis, 61, of 152 Bayberry Court, died Thursday, May 13, 1999. A native of Thorndale, Texas, Mr. Davis was a son of Alice S. Davis of Carrollton, Texas, and the late Benjamin Angus Davis. He had resided in Athens since 1989 and was retired as contractor sales manager for Home Depot. He was a member of Athens Board of Realtors and was employed with Bob Foster Realty. A native of Randolf, Mo., Mrs. Howing was a daughter of the late Freddrick Henson and Dora Rebecca Feland Dill and was the widow of Henry Clifford Howing. She was preceded in death by a son, Freddrick Clifford Howing. She had resided in Athens for the past 2 1/2 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
