A native of Meriwether County, Mr. Melton was a son of the late Joe Clark Melton and Emma Edna Brown Melton. He was a U.S. Army medical technician in WWII, a former minister of education with Elberton First Baptist Church, and a retired Baptist minister. He was a member of Elberton First Baptist Church. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Elberton First Baptist Church with the Drs. C.E. Jackson III and James C. Elder officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Hart County. Survivors include his wife, Tabitha Ray Melton; a daughter, Laverne Melton, Thomson; a son, Norman Ray Melton, Duluth; a sister, Sara Jean Melton Brown, Manchester; two brothers, Pete Melton, LaGrange, and Bobby Melton, Thomaston; and five grandchildren. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Adams was a daughter of Francine Beck, Athens, and the late Claude Beck. She was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church where she was a longtime member of the choir and outreach leader for Joy Sunday School Class. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Prince Avenue Baptist Church, Athens, with the Revs. Bill Ricketts and Howard Greer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband, Marvin F. Adams; two sons, Robert Adams, Winterville, and Mark Adams, Alpharetta; two sisters, Patsy Sewell, Athens, and Marie Richards, Gainesville; four brothers, Claude Beck Jr., Nebraska; Winfred Beck and Sammy Beck, both of Bowman; and Harry Beck, Marietta; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Coleman Whitehead, Duel Maddox, Dwain Chambers, Ray Hutchins, Charlie Foster and Claude Craft. Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Allgood, George Paul, Jimmy Shivar, Jim Robertson, Richard Morse, Tom Harvill, Donald Willie, Herbert Logan and the members of the Joy Sunday School Class. A native of Barrow County, Mrs. Hawkins was a daughter of the late David Lee and Pearl Griffith Mobley, and was the widow of Mr. B.F. Hawkins. She was a retired nurse's aide at Russell Nursing Home and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church where she attended the Mother's Sunday School Class. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Bethabra Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include three children, Jane Hawkins, Cauthen, S.C., and Jerry and Pat Hawkins, Winder; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
