A native of Anderson County, S.C., Ms. Bailey was a daughter of the late Mac A. and Mary H. "Mutt" Bailey. She was a member of Reed Creek Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home with the Revs. Sam Gray and Ted Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Reed Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include four daughters, Angie Jordan, Starr, S.C., Rhonda Stone and Lisa Moss, both of Hartwell, and Kristie Slade, Williamston; a sister, Peggy Bailey Norton, Hartwell; a brother, George A. Kathie Faye Williams Bates Lula Kathie Faye Williams Bates, 49, of 5809 Julian Baugh Road died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999. A native of California, Mrs. Bates was a daughter of Willard Williams of New Boston, Texas and the late Ivorene Collins Williams. She was a homemaker and was of the Holiness faith. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home, Cornelia, with the Rev. Melvin Baugh officiating. Burial will be in Whitehall Baptist Church cemetery. Survivors, in addition to her father, include her husband, Billy Ray Bates; a son, Willard Bates, Lawrenceville; two sisters, Willa Wriand, Vacaville, Calif., and Iddene Sullivan, California; a brother, Willard T. John Thornton Dix, 44, of 2223 Gabarone Blvd. died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999. A native of Greene County, Mr. Dix was a son of Dr. Glenn Dix and Joyce Thornton Dix of Madison. He was an industrial construction engineer. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. E.C. Sheehan officiating. A native of Salisbury, N.C, Mrs. Granberry was a daughter of the late Theodore R. and Ruby Norris. She was a graduate of Shaw University, Raleigh, N.C. and Troy State University, Troy, Ala. She taught in the Jackson County, Fla. school system for over 30 years. Henry Rains Maxwell Evans Henry Rains Maxwell, 77, of 4431 Hereford Farm Road died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999. A native of Lexington, Mr. Maxwell was an installer for Wester Electric Co./Lucent Technology for 42 years. He was a member of Lexington Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. A native of Lacrosse, Wis., Mrs. Watson was a daughter of the late Roy and Edna Heitman Fredrickson and was the widow of Doma A" Watson II. She was a American Red Cross volunteer nurse during World War II and was a member of Athens First Baptist Church. She was a past member of Athens Bridge Club and Athens Country Club. Cylinda Raye Shull Hazen, 46, of Lenior, N.C. died Saturday, August 14, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Larry Doran Haze, Executive Vice-President of Marketing for Wood Products for Broyhill Furniture Industries, two daughters, Heather Renee, 21, and Melissa Mercer, 19, both students at Wake Forest University, and one son, Ryan Doran, 15, of the home; her parents, Mrs. Raymond and Patsy Shull of Swoope, Virginia; two brothers, Timothy Ray and Kent Wampler Shull and their nine children, all of Virginia; a closely-knit extended family and community, which includes her father and mother-in-law, Mr. Anthony and Betty Hazen Paen, of Lenoir; her four sisters-in-law, Lynn Hazen Morell, of Charlotte, NC; Mimi Hazen Burke of Rye, N.Y.; Lisa Hazen Davies and Amy Hazen Spaeth, of Greenwich, Ct., and eleven nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hazen was born April 25, 1953 in Swoope, Virginia and as Miss Augusta County was runner up in the Miss Virginia Pageant in 1973. She graduated from Souther Seminary College in 1973 and was a 1975 graduate of Wake Forest University where she earned her BS Degree in Business. Cylinda and Larry were married December 28, 1974 and lived in Colorado and California before relocating to Lenoir in 1980. She was actively involved in the community where she served on the Boards of Fort Defiance, Western Piedmont Symphony and Grousemore Condominiums at Linville Ridge where she and Larry shared a vacation home. She was a member of the Lenoir Service League and recently was licensed as a Guardian ad Litem, which allowed her to act as an advocate for children involved in custody disputes. She previously served as president of Lower Creek Elementary PTA and was actively involved with William Lenoir Middle School and Hibriten High School PTAs and Athletic Clubs. Twice she was a candidate for the Caldwell County School Board. The Hazen Family are active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Lenoir where Cylinday volunteered as a driver for the "SightSeekers" and played in the bell choir. Cylinda will be remembered first and foremost as a loving mother and wife. She spent leisure time horseback riding, gardening and nurturing her family and friends.
