Albert Athens Charles R. Albert, 89, of Athens died Monday, March 15, 1999. Born in Covington, Ky., on Jan. 16, 1910, the son of Flora and William Albert, Mr. Albert lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, until his graduation from high school. He moved to Atlanta, where he attended Georgia Tech until his move to Athens. For many years he worked for Bush Jewelers, then for Clarke County Board of Tax Assessors until his retirement. An active member of the First Presbyterian Church for 65 years, he served as a deacon and an elder for more than 40 years with 17 as the treasurer. Mr. Albert's civic involvement included Athens Loins Club, member of Clarke County Board of Education, Boy Scouts, Jaycees, Welfare Board and Life Membership Award from the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Known as an outdoorsman, Mr. Albert enjoyed hunting and fishing to the fullest throughout his life. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Oconee Hill Cemetery. Married for 63 years to the late Margaret S. Albert, he is survived by a brother, Harry Albert, Clarkesville, Tenn.; children Judith and Grannon Thompson, Claxton, Diane and Buck Adams, Athens, Jeannie Hartis, Athens; sisters-in-law, Mildred Turner and Sarah Jefferson, both of Athens; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Bridges Georgetown John Randolph Bridges, 85, of Route 2, Box 154 C-1, died Monday, March 15, 1999. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Bridges was a son of the late Ernest Brides and Eula Smith Bridges. He was a self-employed salesman and was a member of Moreland Avenue Baptist Church, Atlanta. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Jackson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. He was a retired driver with Better Maid Dairy and was retired from St. Mary's maintenance and security department. He was a U.S. Army veteran, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2872 of Athens and was a lifetime member of the disabled veterans. He was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Florence Towson; and a brother, Frank L. Rigdon. She graduated from Tifton High School and was Miss Tifton High School and Tobacco Queen. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a major in music and a degree in Business Administration. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority, the Pandora beauty court, the Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity and was an Alpha Tau Omega Sponsor. She was a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church, where she was in the sanctuary choir, the music committee, the floral committee, chairman of the outreach committee, was a member of the Seekers Sunday school class and the Round Table. She was a member of Mountain Brook Garden Club, the Gaieties Dance Club, the Ballerinas Dance Club, the Sewing Club, the Women's USTA tennis league and the tennis team at the country club of Birmingham, Ala.
