A native of Hart County, Mrs. Bannister was a daughter of the late Mallory W. and Patty Bray Adams, and was the widow of Roy H. Bannister. She was retired from Newton Mills as a draftsman. She was a member of Hartwell First Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hartwell First Baptist Church with the Revs. F. Hugh Kirby and Charlie Wilson officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park. Survivors include a son, James Roy Bannister, Atlanta; five sisters, Troyce Clark Jones and Geneva Cordell, both of Hartwell, Jane Thomas, Thompson, Jeanette McCormack, Paris, Texas, and Alice Ruth Shiflet, Warner Robins; and a grandson. Pallbearers will be John Clark, Tom Cordell, Sandy Wells, Charles Vickery, Bob Cordell, and Joe Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ruth Sunday School Class. Sara Copelan Union Point Sara Edwards English Copelan, 84, of 901 Dolvin Ave., died Friday, July 16, 1999. A native of Taliaferro County, Mrs. Copelan was a daughter of the late DeWitt Edwards and Willie Pitts. She was retired from Chipman-Union Manufacturing as a finish operator and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Callaway Funeral Home, Union Point, with the Rev. Landon Carey officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Union Point. Survivors include her husband, John "Hamp" Copelan; a daughter, Betty English Rice, Hull; a son, Russell DeWitt English, De Soto, Texas; three sisters, Irene Edwards and Jane Edwards Taylor, both of Atlanta, and Frances Edwards Kirkley, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. John Dixon Elberton The Rev. John Charles Dixon, 92, of 2563 Dr. George Ward Road, died Saturday, July 17, 1999. A native of Elbert County, the Rev. Dixon was a son of the late William "Bud" Dixon and Lucy Guest Dixon. He was a retired Master Carpenter and a farmer, and has been a licensed minister for 50 years. During WWII, he served for three years at the Brunswick shipyard building ships. Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Flatwoods Pentecostal Holiness Church, Elberton, with the Rev. Phillip Hart officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Jamie Mauldin Dixon; two daughters, Mabel Payton and Fay McCannon, both of Elberton; a son, Col. Charles Dixon, Elberton; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Reggie Payton, Keith Dixon, Phil Bohlen, Lane Eaton, Steve Evans, and Alex Evans. A native of Wilkes County, Mrs. Powers was a daughter of the late James Brantley and Loinda Belle Rice Poss, and was the widow of Jack Harold Powers. She was a graduate of Morris High School, retired from Hanna Manufacturing Co., and was a member of First Baptist Church of Greensboro. She was a member of Goldtones Choir, Fidellis Sunday School Class, and the Senior Citizens Group. She lived in Greensboro for the past 20 years. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Greenlawn Cemetery, Union Point, with the Rev. Dave Sandridge officiating. A native of Greene County, Mrs. Weatherly was a daughter of the late John Lester and Hattie Lee Marchman Yearwood. She had lived most of her life in this area and was retired from the University of Georgia Veterinary School. She was also a retired LPN with 56 years of service, both in private duty nursing and 35 years of service at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a member of Sonlight Baptist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. Tom Miles officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include her husband, Chester E.
