Phillips Danielsville Mr. Loney T. Phillips, 80, of 812 Friendship Church Rd., Danielsville, Ga. died Thursday, November 18, 1999 at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Ga. He was born in Jackson County, September 7, 1919, the son of the late Ord and Rillar Carithers Phillips. He was a heavy Equipment Operator and a Farmer. He was a member of the New Haven Holiness Church and a U.S. Army WWII veteran. Survivors include his wife, Naovie Virginia Porterfield Phillips; a son, Timothy and Sandara Phillips, Hull, Ga.; daughters, Brenda and David Walls, Hull, Ga., Linda and Robert Miller, Phebe and Rickey Smith, Tonda and Kevin Rowe, all of Danielsville, Ga.; grandchildren, Clay and Dana Miller, Michelle Walls Baker, Phillip and Molly Smith, Katie, Tressie and Jennie Philips, and Jessie Rowe; and a sister, Lorie Hardman, Comer, Ga. He was preceded in death by brothers, Lonnie, Alfred and Albert Phillips; and sisters, Orie Lee Baldwin and Margie Brown. Funeral services for Mr. Phillips will be at 3:00 Saturday at the New Haven Holiness Church with Rev. Rufus Miller and Rev. Eugene Walls officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: L.C. He is survived by: wife, Nancy A. Ward; daughter, Jenny Ward Jordan; sisters, Beatrice Hewitt of Athens, Jo Anne Ward of Monroe, and Amy Edwards of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Ansley Jordan and Hunter Jordan; several nieces and nephews. Dr. Ward was an Eagle Scout and earned four degrees from the University of Georgia: AB in English, Masters and Specialist in Education, and a Doctor of Education. He was a teacher in the Gwinnett County Public School system for nine years and Communicative Arts Coordinator for the State Department of Education for twelve years. He was recognized for his contributions to the teaching profession by the ''Outstanding Young Men in America'' organization. He served as an instructor for the Governor's Honors Program for several years and as English Department Chair at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens where he was selected as STAR teacher four times. Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 20, at 11AM at Wages Snellville Chapel with Father Cliff Hasler officiating.
