He was born May 2, 1920, in Cumming. He moved to the Lavonia area in 1929. He was a son of the late William Anderson Agnew and Sally Betty Minyard Agnew, and was the widower of his first wife, Peggy Williams Agnew. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry Clay Agnew, L.E. Agnew, and Waco Agnew; and two sisters, Bertha A. Rigeway and Clarice A. Beavers. He was a retired engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation, Gainesville Division, having served as a bridge inspector prior to retirement. Mr. Agnew was an Army veteran of WWII, having served in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lavonia where he had been an usher for over 20 years and was past chairman of the Official Board. He was a member and Past Master of Lavonia Lodge 241 F&AM, past Worthy Patron of OES 377, member of of the Fred E. Lee 86 Royal Arch Masons, the Franklin 50 Council, the Philemon Commandery 33, 320 Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Yaarab Shrine Temple, member and past president of Toccoa Shrine Club, past president of the Athens Scottish Rite Association. He was a past Exalted Ruler, BPOE 1820, was an active member of the Franklin County Young Farmers, and a member of the American Legion and VFW 4346. Survivors include his wife, Lorena Stowe Agnew; three sons and their families, Ronald and Willene Agnew, Toccoa, David and Gloria Agnew, Wilmington Island, and John Baxter Agnew, of the home; grandchildren, including Katrina Peggy Agnew, Dahlonega, Sarabeth and Rebecca Agnew, Toccoa, and Brian and Colin Agnew, Wilmington Island; a sister, Geneva Weems, Marietta; a sister-in-law, Augusta Agnew, Madeira Beach, Fla.; and a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Lavonia with the Revs. Dr. Sheila Hunt, Katy Krumbach and Claude Smithmier officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Franklin Memorial Gardens with full Masonic Rites and military VFW. Pallbearers will be Wilton Morgan, Bill Smith, Stewart Walker, Ivan White, John Maxwell, Charles Terrell, Byron Toney and Cecil Glover. She was at Heritage Nursing Home at the time of her death, having gone there Aug. 18. A native of Sweet Home, Ore., Mrs. Reinhart was a daughter of the late John and Bertha Miller, and was the widow of Chester Reinhart. She moved from Ore. to Naperville, Ill., in the early 1920's, worked at Kroehler Furniture Manufacturing during WWII and several years thereafter. She was active in Community United Methodist Church and maintained her own home until Aug. 1996 when she came to Athens to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Dr. Dwight Freshley. She attended First United Methodist Church. She possessed a buoyant spirit and had a legion of friends. Survivors include her son, Dr. Bruce Reinhart, of Vienna, Va., daughter, Ruth Jean Freshley, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be held later at Sweet Home, Ore.
