A native of Jackson County, Mr. Appleby was a son of the late Herman and Gussie Appleby. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Elise Byers, and a son, Roger Appleby. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Maxey Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Ambrose M. Jackson and Fred Wilson officiating. Survivors include his wife, Grace Ivory Appleby; seven daughters, Frances Sewell and Nelease Appleby, both of Jefferson, Vivian Hardin, Atlanta, Delphine Burton and Donnette Parks, both of Athens, Joyce Elaine Shield and Debra Ann Carruth, both of Gainesville; two sons, Royce Appleby Jr., Athens, and James Appleby, Jefferson; a brother, Clarence Appleby, Arcade; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. A native of Greene County, Mr. Hill was a son of Martha R. Hill and the late Willie "Will" Hill. He was a member of New Springfield Baptist Church, Siloam. She was retired from Blue Bell and The Fabric Shop and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Rev.
