A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Brookshire was a daughter of Claudie Standridge of Jefferson and Betty Jo Standridge and James H. Matthew of Jefferson and preceded in death by her grandfather, Hootie Howington. She was a clerk and attended Free Chapel Worship Center. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Ray Brookshire; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jonathan J. Frederick John Brown Winder Frederick John Brown, 66, of 902 Century Oaks Drive, died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999. A native of Dilles Bottom, Ohio, Mr. Brown was a son of the late Dean and Elsie Wilson Brown. He was a member of La Grange Masonic Lodge, La Grange, Ohio, and a veteran of the Korean War, where he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wise-Connolly Funeral Home with the Rev. Brock Burnette officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ellen Blackburn Brown; three sons, Michael J. Brown, Alexandria, Va., and Kevin Brown and Guy W. Brown, both of Monroe; two sisters, Eleanor Carroll, New Philadelphia, Ohio, and Evelyn Dowdle, St. Clairsville, Ohio; and five grandchildren. Hope Marie Brown Bogart Hope Marie Brown, infant daughter of Clark and Stacy Smith Brown, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999. Frank McCord Giles Athens Frank McCord Giles, 66, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999. A native of Nashville and Bethesda, Tenn., Mr. Giles was a son of the late Herbert and Era McCord Giles. He attended Battle Ground Academy 1946-1950, while there he distinguished himself as an outstanding athlete in football, basketball, and baseball, served as captain of the football team and received the honor as Most Valuable Player, both during his senior year, and on Feb. 6, 1999, he was inducted into the BGA Sports Hall of Fame. He attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tenn., from 1950-1952, and graduated from Middle Tennessee State College in 1954, where he continued his pursuit of excellence in sports. Upon graduation he served as an officer in the U.S. Army in Germany as a first lieutenant. He returned from Germany in 1956 to pursue a professional career in educational administration, teaching, and coaching. He coached high school football for 10 years at McEwen High School, McEwen, Tenn., 1957-1959, Georgia Military Academy of College Park 1959-1963, North Habersham High School, Clarkesville, 1963-1964, and Tallulah Falls School, Tallulah Falls, 1964-1968, where he was also the school principal. In 1968 he moved to Athens where he attended the University of Georgia and received his Specialist in Education degree in 1970. He was principal of Oglethorpe County High School, Lexington 1970-1972, worked for Paulding County Board of Education, Dallas, as head of Instructional Services and Guidance and Counseling until his retirement in 1996. In 1997 he took a position as a counselor in the Graduate Department of Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, Tenn. While there, he enjoyed reuniting with many of his former classmates and was very active in organizing alumni functions. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Bethesda Presbyterian Church of Bethesda Community, Bethesda, Tenn. Burial will be in Giles-Daniels Family Cemetery, Fanny Daniels Road, Bethesda Community, Tenn. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Giles-Cruz, Watkinsville, and Sally Claire Giles, Athens; an adoptive daughter, Alison Harris, New York, N.Y.; a son, David Franklin Giles, Satolah; former wife, Jane Gilliland Giles, Cleveland, Tenn.; and a grandson, David Franklin Cruz, Watkinsville. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Hamby was a son of the late M.H. and Monia Malcom Hamby and widower of Eula Whitehead Hamby. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Church of God, Gainesville, where he served as minister for a number of years. Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Prospect United Methodist Church cemetery, Fair Play, with the Rev. Dwayne French officiating. Bridges Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Thelma Hill Harris Oakland, Calif. Thelma Hill Harris, 85, formerly of Athens, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999. A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Harris was a daughter of the late Louvenia Hill. Services will be 3:30 p.m. Monday at Hurley Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Winfred M. Hope officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include two sisters, Marie Holt, Athens, and Nancy Honesty, East Elmhurst, N.Y.; a brother, Milton Hill, Athens; and several nieces and nephews. Martha Harrison Jones Carrollton Martha Harrison Jones, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999. A native of Washington County, Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late Lee and Belle Roberts and preceded in death by a son, Joe Walker Harrison. She attended Sandersville schools and received her Bachelors Degree in Home Economics from the University of Georgia in 1942 and her Masters Degree from Cornell University. Her career with the Georgia Agricultural Extension Service spanned three decades and included positions as County Home Demonstration Agent, Associate State 4-H leader and District Agent. During her 14 years as Associate State 4-H leader she was instrumental in the construction and development of the summer camping programs for the Rock Eagle 4-H Club Center near Eatonton. She received numerous awards for distinguished and meritorious service, including the 4-H Outstanding Service Award in 1949, the coveted U.S. Department of Agriculture Superior Service Award and the Georgia Home Economics Association Outstanding Achievement Award in 1957. She was recognized by the Athens Business and Professional Women's Club as Woman of the Year in 1965, and by the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce as Agri-Leader of the year in 1970. In honor of her outstanding service to the 4-H Club Program, an annual 4-H scholarship was established in her name in 1972. She was also elected to Gamma Sigma Delta and Epsilon Sigma Phi honor societies. She was a vital part of Pilot International, the Georgia District, and the Pilot Clubs of Carrollton and Athens. She held numerous offices, including president of the Athens Club and the Carrollton. She was elected lieutenant governor of the Georgia District in 1973, and to the office of Georgia District Governor in 1974. Under her leadership, additional clubs were formed in Georgia and Montana. Among her many Pilot service projects was the Lifeline Emergency Assistance program for the elderly. She was a leader in organizing the first Association of Retarded Citizens in Carroll County and served as president, as well as other positions. She was instrumental in securing the necessary land and the funds for construction of the new ARC Training Center. She also served as Sunday school director, teacher, and chairperson of the fund-raising campaign for the construction of the new sanctuary for Mars Hill Baptist Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mars Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Wofford, Hugh L. Dukes, and Bill Clinton officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Survivors include her husband, J. Albert Jones; five sisters, Louise Spence, LaGrange, Helen Brannen and Lenora Dyar, both of Athens, Mary Nell Green, Atlanta, and Hannah Bradley, Greensboro; and three sisters-in-law, Ann Jones and Iris Jones, Carrollton, and Lucille Roberts, Macon. A native of Cranford, N.J., Mr. Keyser was a son of the late Charles and Marie Barton Keyser. He grew up in the Cranford C&MA Church, attended Nyack College from 1951-1955, was an active member of Farmington Hills Alliance Church, Mich., for 30 years, retired from General Motors Corp., Detroit, Mich., after 20 years, and was ordained as a pastor with the C&MA. He pastored churches in Blossburg, Pa., and Lock Haven, Pa., was a member of Toccoa Optimist Club, and a volunteer at Liberty School. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Toccoa First Alliance Church with the Rev. R. Harold Mangham officiating. Private burial will be in Roselane Cemetery. He was a retired Baptist minister and member of Toccoa First Baptist Church and the Agoga Bible Class.
