Almand III Demorest Retired Lt. Col. Benjamin Franklin Almand III, 79, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999. A native of Atlanta, Mr. Almand was a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Almand Jr. and Alberta Hicks Almand and was the widower of Lois Katharyn Almand. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lillian Margaret Almand. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, American Military College and the University of San Jose. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army after 33 years of service. He was a member of Batesville Community Club and Habersham Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a volunteer at Central Heights Christian School, Habersham Christian Learning Center, and Habersham County Medical Center Auxiliary. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Habersham Baptist Church with the Revs. Tim Burpee and Alvin Oakes officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Marietta National Cemetery with a U.S. Army chaplain officiating with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. McPherson. Survivors include his wife, Margie Almand; a daughter, Bonnie Lutz, Loomis, Calif.; two sons, Benjamin Franklin Almand IV, Cornelia, and Capt. Robert Almand, U.S. Navy, Germany; two stepdaughters, Claudia A. Foshie, Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Susan M. Whitlock, Mountville; three stepsons, Timothy Williams, Sharpsburg, James P. Williams, Locust Grove, and John T. Williams, Morrow; a sister, Marjorie Watson, Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lt. Col. She was retired from Rocky River Mills at Calhoun Falls, S.C., was a homemaker and was a member of Bethel ''E'' Baptist Church.
