A native of Durham, N.C., he was the son of the late Columbus English. He was a member of the Harmonia Baptist Church, Maxeys. Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Harmonia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hoyt Smith officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Anderson was the daughter of the late John R. Chafin and the late Sue Bell Arthur. She was a housewife, a member of the Forest Heights Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Adult 3 Sunday School Class and the choir. She was also a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital. Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Forest Heights Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mike Purdy and Johnny Curry officiating. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Cartey lived here in Athens all his life. He was the son of the late Novis Harold and Ossie Landrum Cartey Sr. He served on the Athens Police Dept. for over 30 years and retired with the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church and the One Way Sunday School Class. Survivors include his wife, Billie Nunnally Cartey, Athens; son, Ty Cartey, Atlanta; daughter, Pam Fillyaw, Winterville; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and David Dunbar, Athens; sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Charles Strickland, Marietta; brother-in-law, Richard Nunnally, Athens; grandchildren: Susan and Mike Ivy, Good Hope; Becky and Patrick Thompson, Gainesville; Kristy Dunbar, Athens; Mike Dunbar Jr., Athens; great-granddaughter, Hattie Ivy, Good Hope; and nephew, Steve Strickland, Marietta.
