Taylor Atlanta Mr. Jack C. Taylor of Atlanta died October 25, 1999. He was a Mason, Scottish Rite Shriner, Kiwanian and member of St. John United Methodist Church. Mr. Taylor served in the Army during WWII and received two Purple Hearts. Survived by wife, Mary Lester Taylor; sons, Cliff Taylor, Bill Taylor and Lenny Taylor, all of Atlanta; sister and brother in law, Gloria and Charlie Mayhue, Gray; six granddaughters. A native of Clinton, SC, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Emma McCrary Ray. She was a resident of the Clemson-Central area since 1939, having moved to Winterville in 1998. She was the first employee of Carolina National Bank (now First Citizens Bank) and a long time member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Central. She was a member of UDC. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at 11:00 AM at Lawrence Chapel Methodist Church, Six Mile, S.C. with Rev. Phillip Newton officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Lawrence will lie in state at the church from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. Survivors include her husband, Norman M. ''Bill'' McCoy, 80, of Wood St. died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999. A native of Banks County, Mr. McCoy was a son of the late A.B. and Lilly Eubanks McCoy. He was retired after 25 years as service manager with Stovall Motor Co. and was a member of Cornelia First United Methodist Church. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps before entering the U.S. Army. He was a World War II veteran motorcyclist specialist, having served in Rhineland, Central Europe, Algeria French Morocco, Sicily, Normandy and Northern France. He received the American Defense Service Ribbon, the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal and the European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with six bronze stars. He was a member of VFW Grant Reeves Post 7720. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Whitfield Funeral Home, Baldwin, with the Rev. Clyde Garrison officiating. A native of Athens since the age of 3, Mr. Upchurch was born October 27, 1925, in Charlotte, N.C. He was a son of the late George Vance Upchurch and Marion West Lay. He was the founder of Upchurch Realty and Upchurch Insurance Agency, and served as Chairman of the Board of Coldwell Banker Upchurch Realty, the company he founded in 1973 and owned until 1998. He received numerous professional and community service awards, including: Coldwell Banker International's Preserving the Trust Award, the Thomas Spence Griffin Memorial Award; Athens Regional Medical Center's J.W. Fanning Humanitarian Award; and Athens Realtor of the Year, 1981. He led Coldwell Banker Upchurch Realty to be named the #1 residential affiliate in Georgia and in 1995, the company was honored as the #1 International Coldwell Banker office. He attended the University of Georgia, was a WWII veteran and a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church; the March of Dimes board; City Club; Kappa Alpha Fraternity; Gridiron Society; University of Georgia President's Club; University Trust, Executive Board; Northeast Georgia Council of Boy Scouts, Executive Board; Clarke County Hospital Authority (3 years as chairman); the Heart Fund and United Way.
