A native of Jackson County, Mr. Mauldin was a son of the late Clarence and Etta Clark Mauldin. He was retired from Crystal Farms, was a member of the Rockwell Lodge, and was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy. He was a member of Walnut Fork Baptist Church. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. Howard Banks officiating. Burial will follow in the Barrow Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites at the graveside. Story last updated at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 1999 Pat Watson Athens Coach Pascal ''Pat'' Lamar Watson Jr., 56, of 1031 Millers Lake Drive, Bogart, Georgia, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at 9:41 p.m. at St. Mary's Hospital, just a few hours after the end of Georgia's 24-23 win over Central Florida at Sanford Stadium in Athens. Watson was in his second season with the Bulldogs. He joined the staff on March 11, 1998, as a defensive ends coach. Last December he moved over to take the offensive line coach position. His brief tenure at Georgia was part of a 32-year college coaching career that began when Watson was hired as a graduate assistant at North Carolina in 1967. Watson went on to assistant coaching slots at Furman (1969), Mississippi State (1970-71), North Carolina (1972-77), Virginia Tech (1978-86), Georgia Tech (1987-91) and (1995-96) and Texas (1992-94). Watson, a Meridian, Miss., native, was a high school All-American and he went on to earn All-SEC and All-America honors as an offensive lineman at Mississippi State, where he played from 1961-64. In 1998, Watson was inducted into the Mississippi State Hall of Fame. Watson played two years in the Canadian Football League before beginning his coaching career. Coach Watson is survived by his wife, Freddie; children, Jane and Cal of Athens; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pascal ''Pat'' Lamar Watson Sr. of Enterprise, Miss.; two sisters, Sylvia Carroll of Hattiesburg, Miss. (former resident of Athens), and Linda Ferguson Chandler of Atlanta; and 15 nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Prince Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
