Taylor Athens Mattie L. Taylor, 71, of 350 Ruth St., died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Taylor was a daughter of the late L.J. Green and Bessie Smith. She was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. Manning Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include her husband, Donnie Taylor; four sisters, Zula Smith, Lois Epps, and Polly Short, all of Athens, and Mary Sanders, Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Randy Short, Michael Short, Bobby Wood, Seaborn Watkins, and Shane Purcell. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Schwartz, a nurse whose research findings on geriatric nursing care led to improvements in elderly health care, died Aug. 22. She was 84. Schwartz was a former professor at the Cornell University-New York Hospital School of Nursing. Her knowledge of geriatric care stemmed from her years as an Army nurse in World War II. She initiated research by the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing into the use of physical restraints on patients in nursing homes and hospitals. Her work led to changes in restraint procedures. Schwartz also has written an autobiography, ''My Fifty Years in Nursing: Give Us to Go Blithely'' and had been working on a book about the 55 people who most influenced her careers. Schwartz also was a member of the Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Science and co-director of two groundbreaking programs to train geriatric and family nurse practitioners at Cornell University-New York Hospital. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Wymbs was a son of the late Jim Wymbs Sr. and Camilla Watkins Wymbs. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in W.W.II. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Mack Kenny officiating. Survivors include two sons, Michael Wymbs and Robert Charles Wymbs, both of Athens.
