(Billy) McCannon a native of Oglethorpe County and a resident of Athens died Thursday, March 30, 2000, he was 71. He was the son of the late Tommy and Ida Mae Payne McCannon. He was preceded in death by two brothers: George and J.W. McCannon and two sisters: Virginia Casper and Betty Joe Jones. Mr. McCannon served in the US Army Reserves for 6 years. He retired from the University of Georgia in 1982. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Lodge No. 22 and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. McCannon is survived by his wife: Opal Jackson McCannon of Athens, GA: a daughter and son in law: Diane and Paul Minish of Danielsville, GA: and two grandchildren Christy Gaddis and her husband Larry of Danielsville and William (Bill) Nicholson and His wife Alicia of Watkinsville, GA: and a number of nieces and nephews.
