Luther Randall Whitehead, 68, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000. A native of Winder, Mr. Whitehead was a son of Luther and Carryce Whitehead. He received his B.S. degree in physics and mathematics from North Georgia Military College in 1953 and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America and was formerly employed by Western Electric/Bell Telephone Labs as an engineer. He was a senior systems analyst with RCA in the U.S. Air Force Eastern Test Range for the missile impact location system from 1961-66. During this time he also taught and assisted in establishing the oceanographic graduate program at F.I.T. He was instrumentation manager with RCA for Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center project from 1966-69. He was operations manager for the U.S. Navy Autec project and was project manager in 1983. He was operations support manager with GE's missile test project at Cape Canaveral and Patrick Air Force Base. He was a deputy aerostat manager and manager of aerostat site development. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Rogers Baptist Church, Commerce. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Patricia Whitehead; a daughter, Laura Whitehead; sons, Randall Whitehead Jr., Russ Whitehead and Ray Whitehead; a sister, Millie Whitehead; five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Hospice of Health First. Davis Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Fowler was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Bethel Gordon Rogers and was the widow of Comer D. Fowler. She was a retired school teacher and was a member of Commerce First United Methodist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Commerce First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Warren Huddleston and Tim Hogg officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens. Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn Edwards, Conyers, and Eleanor Jones, Rex; two sisters, Mary Baker and Lois Gordon, both of Athens; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A native of Walton County, Mrs. Clark was a daughter of the late Nead Sims and Ella Manders and was the widow of Paul Clark. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Clark. She was a dietary worker for Russell Nursing Home and was a member of East Side Baptist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wise-Connolly Funeral Home, Winder, with the Rev. Kenneth Deaton and Steve ''Boweveil'' Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Landers, Statham; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. LeRoy Coleman Harris Jr., 81, U.S. Marine Corps, retired, of 218 Seminole Drive died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000. A native of Stephens County, Mr. Harris was a son of the late LeRoy Coleman Sr. and Bess Furr Harris and was the widower of Muriel James Harris. He was a graduate of Toccoa High School and North Georgia College. He was a 29-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and received a commendation from Borg Warner for participating in the development of the amphibious tractor. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars and was a military attache to the U.S. Embassy in Spain. He was a member of Toccoa First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 104 and Toccoa VFW Post 4346. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Hawks officiating. Burial will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens with full military honors accorded by VFW Post 4346. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Bess Clark, Princeton, N.J., and Rose Davis Langston, St. Simons Island; a brother, William F. ''Bill'' Harris, Toccoa. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 10:06 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2000 Forest Edwin Kellogg, Jr. Douglas The community was sad to learn, Wednesday, October 25, 2000, of the death of Mr. Forest Edwin Kellogg, Jr., known to his friends as ''Ed.'' Mr. Kellogg was 89 years of age, having been born November 17, 1920 in Athens, Georgia, he was the son of Aline Hale & Forest Edwin Kellogg, Sr. Mr. Kellogg was a graduate of the school of Landscape Architecture at the University of Georgia, where he worked his way through college. It was in Athens that he met a student, Anna Jean Tanner, who was to be his future bride. They were married in Douglas at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Elie Tanner, they lived in Athens several years while Ed established his landscaping business. Following the death of Mrs. Kellogg's father, Mr. Elie Tanner in 1940, they returned to Douglas. Here Mr. Kellogg continued a nursery and landscaping business in addition to supervising a large farming operation. After several years, he expanded his interests into a building and land development. He developed Kellogg Subdivision, Green Acres & Fox Hills. He was an active participant in the business & civic affairs of Douglas until his illness forced him to retired in 1990. He served on the Industrial Board for many years & was an aggressive influence in bringing many industries to Douglas. He was a member of the Rotary Club & Mr. Kellogg was also a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was responsible for the landscaping & grounds upkeep for many years. He was an active supporter of the African Agricultural Project of the Methodist Church. Much of the beauty of Douglas in camellias, azalea, flowering trees & shrubs is due to Mr. Kellogg's influence. His love of flowers, generosity of spirit & sage advice will be long remembered. He is survived by his wife, Anna Jean Tanner Kellogg, one daughter, Mary Pat Griffin, one son, Forest Edwin Kellogg, III; three granddaughters, Anna Edge, Beverly Michel, Lisa Kellogg, two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Benjamin Michel, one sister, Mary Bell. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 27, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. James E. Duke, Jr. officiating. Special music was provided by Soloist, Frank Pridemore as he sang ''How Great Thou Art'' & the congregation sang ''For the Beauty of the Earth'' with Elizabeth Forsyth, Pianist. Entombment followed in the Tanner Mausoleum at the Douglas City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were: John Bell, Ed Bell, Benny Dockery, Elie Scott, Jimmy Strickland & Joe Strickland. Honorary pallbearers were: Jim Fox, Myles Greene, Earl Watkins, Bunny Evans, Wes Abler, Charles Cross, Sr., Carroll Purvis, Correll Cowart, Phillip Harrell, Sherman Dudley, Walter Kirkland & Members of the Industrial Authority.
