He won the Nascar Golden Wrench Award Southeast Region in 1988 and the Points Championship in the Southeast Region, late model class. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Commerce, Ruth Naomi Sunday School Class UMW, and Circle One. Member of the D.A.R. and the Commerce Ladies Study Club and the Commerce Garden Club. She was a graduate of Washington High School and the University of Georgia. She was a retired high school English teacher. After retiring Mrs. Barnett was a supply teacher for Toccoa and Commerce High School. Surviving are her husband: William Merriwether Barnett of the home. Brother-in-law, Thomas L.
