She was a homemaker and a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 9:53 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2000 Lailah Link Feldman Athens Lailah Link Feldman, a leader in Athens and Georgia Community Theater, died at ARMC on Jan. 2, 2000 at the age of 74. A native of Paterson, New Jersey, Mrs. Feldman was active in Town and Gown Players and was a long-time member of the Town and Gown Theater Guild. Before coming to Athens in 1966, where she taught English and Speech at Clarke Middle School, Mrs. Feldman taught in the public schools of Newton, N.J. and New Paltz N.Y. At Town & Gown, she directed plays and had leading parts in ''The Gingerbread Lady,'' ''No, No, Nanette,'' ''Prisoner of Second Avenue,'' ''My Three Angels,'' and her most recent role, ''The Dining Room.'' She was the daughter of the late Abraham and Ruth Diamond Link. Beginning her stage career at the age of 2, Lailah did song and dance numbers in vaudeville on the Keith-Orpheum circuit in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, playing with such famous performers as Jack Benny, Eddie Cantor, Sophie Tucker, Helen Morgan, Fifi D'Orsay, and the burlesque comedian, Joe Penner. When she was 16, her parents decided that the theater was not a proper place for a young lady and so her stage career ended...temporarily. So, Lailah continued her acting lessons with such personalities as Jeff Chandler, Sheila MacRae, and Jack Carter. Then she graduated from Montclair State University, majoring in Speech and Drama. Mrs. Feldman is survived by her husband of 47 years, Edmund (retired UGA art professor) and her two daughters, Eva and Jessica, and a granddaughter, Nikki. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3 at Congregation Children of Israel with Rabbi Ronald Gerson officiating.
