He was born in Tignall, Ga. and had lived in Savannah since 1959. Every moment a flash of genius from a man who enriched everyone's lives. He was an Attorney, former State Legislator of 14 years, former candidate for Lieutenant Governor, former candidate for Mayor of Savannah, Ga., former attorney for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. He was founder and CEO of the National Legal Network, Inc. for 15 years. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., former member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, former member of the Savannah State University Alumni Association, former president of the Savannah State NAACP Chapter, former Man of the Year for Savannah State University, past president of the debating society of Savannah State University, past president of Howard University Law Students, and was listed in Who's Who Among African Americans. He was past president of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials and was named Legislator of the Year by the Atlanta Journal and Constitution. He is survived by his mother, Fannie Hill of Athens; a son, Ashley Hill, Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Jessi Cleaver, New York; two brothers, Birl Hill, Jr. and Robert Hill; two sisters, Virginia Bates and Patricia Hill Stuart, both of Seattle, Wash. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Stowe was a son of the late Gordon Hudson and Hattie Mae Williams Stowe, was the widower of Sally Mosely Stowe and was preceded in death by a son, William Harry Stowe. He was trim repairman for 33 years with General Motors and was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran. He was a charter member and past master of Mountain Park Masonic Lodge 729 and was a past president of the Mountaineer Shrine Club. He attended Baldwin Baptist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Whitfield Funeral Home, South, Baldwin, with the Rev. Ed Aiken officiating. A native of Habersham County, Mrs. Purvis was a daughter of the late Lex and Asden Tomlin York, and was the widow of Harry H. Purvis. She was a graduate of Clarkesville High School, the University of Georgia, the University of Alabama and the University of Colorado. She was the administrator of Scenic View Health Care Center for 10 years, and of Habersham County Medical Center and Habersham Home for 20 years. She was the first female nursing home inspector for the state of Georgia. She was a member of Habersham Chapter 480 OES and Cornelia First United Methodist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Whitfield Funeral Home, South, Baldwin, with the Rev. Gene Davis officiating. Burial will be in Level Grove Cemetery.
