A native of Warren County, Mr. Simons was a son of the late Daniel Zackeous and Annie Mae Parham Simons. He was a retired printer for the Atlanta Journal, was a World War II navy veteran, and a member of Rock Baptist Church. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Norwood Baptist Church with the Rev. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 8:12 a.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2000 Pierre Maurice Boulogne Jr. Marietta Photo: obits [INLINE] Pierre Maurice Boulogne Jr. [INLINE] Pierre Maurice Boulogne Jr., 69, of Marietta, GA, died Sunday morning, May 28th, 2000 in Iquitos, Peru, from complications of malaria. Mr. Boulogne was born to Pierre Maurice and Jessamine Campbell in Norfolk, VA, on August 20th, 1930. His many careers included the military, forestry, education, and law. A graduate of Randolph Macon Military Academy, he served in the Army, became active during the Korean Conflict, and was later promoted to Major. He received his law degree at the University of Georgia in Athens, where he also maintained his practice. After several years as Magistrate Judge in Athens, GA and Circuit Court Judge in Atlanta, he left for an active retirement. At the time of death, he was working as a missionary in Iquitos, Peru. As president of Life Link-Peru, he dedicated himself to building and establishing an orphanage in a remote area of the Amazon jungle. He worked tirelessly to procure donations for this cause. Pierre had a contagious enthusiasm for life, and he loved the work he was doing. As he said himself many times, ''I am living my dream!'' He will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include three children: Shannon Boulogne-Glavin of Woodstock, GA; Pierre Boulogne III of Nashville, TN; and Sherrie Boulogne Tibbs of Pikeville, KY. His grandchildren are: Tommy and Pier Boulogne-Glavin, Renae and Devin Boulogne, and Tommy and Emily Tibbs. Former wife, and mother of his children, Dale Boulogne LaFayette, also survived him. Funeral services will be held in Iquitos, Peru. A memorial service will be held in his honor at the Unity North Church in Marietta, GA on Monday, June 5 at 6:00 p.m. All friends and family are invited to attend. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 8:12 a.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2000 Clarence Rhodes McLanahan Elberton Clarence Rhodes McLanahan, 91, of Elberton, GA., died Friday, June 2, 2000. Mr. McLanahan was a son of the late John Julius McLanahan and Clara Rhodes McLanahan. He was married to Dorothy Palmer Dudley McLanahan. A native of Elberton, he attended the Elberton Public Schools, the University of Florida and the University of Georgia, where he received his Bachelor of Law Degree. During his university years, Mr. McLanahan was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Sigma Delta Chi Law Fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa and Scabbard and Blade. A Lieutenant in the United States Navy, World War II, Mr. McLanahan served as Navigator aboard the hospital ship USS Benevolence. He served two four year terms as Judge of the City Court in Elberton; as owner and president of Republic Granite Company, he served terms as President and Director of the American Monument Association, President and Director of the Elberton Granite Association and Director of the Elberton Granite Sales Corporation. He was a Past President of the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce and a Past President of the Elberton Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. McLanahan's banking career began in 1960 and in 1963 he became Chairman of the Board of Directors of the First American Bank and Trust Company in Athens. He was instrumental in forming the Independent Bankers Association of Georgia in 1969, now known as the Community Bankers Association of Georgia, Inc. and served as its third president. A lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Elberton, Mr. McLanahan was a member of and taught the Berean Sunday School Class, directed the Outreach Program, and served as Deacon and Past Chairman of the Board of Deacons. Mr. McLanahan was a member of the Elberton Country Club and the Athens Country Club. In addition to Mrs. McLanahan, his survivors include his daughters, Dorothy McLanahan Watson of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Valerie McLanahan Goetz, Atlanta, Georgia and Catherine McLanahan Nix of Gainesville, Georgia, and his son, John Dudley McLanahan, Athens, Georgia; grandchildren, Mary Palmer Watson Gard, Valerie Catherine Watson Bilbrough, John Lawrence Watson IV, John Dudley McLanahan Jr., Margaret Holmes McLanahan Staton, Clarence Rhodes McLanahan II, Dorothy Drennen McLanahan, Charles Moran Goetz III, Valerie Palmer Goetz Allen, Spencer Gordon Goetz, Sarah Catherine Nix Feild, John Kenneth Nix Jr. and Dorothy Dudley Nix; ten great-grandchildren and six nieces. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Elberton, with Dr. C.E. Jackson III officiating. Private family entombment will follow in the family mausoleum in Elmhurst Cemetery. Grandsons and granddaughter's husbands will serve as pallbearers.
