He was a retired poultry farmer and school bus driver. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a sister Runnette Herbert. He was a Master Machinist and retired Vocational Teacher. In World War II he served in the Pacific Theatre in the 20th Air Corp, 19th Bomb Group, under General Curtis LeMay. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross with three oakleaf clusters and the Air Medal, with five oakleaf clusters. He was a life member of the VFW and Trout Unlimited, and a member of the Freeman Creek Baptist Church.
