A native of Elbert County, Mr. Butler was a son of the late William Newton and Maggie Lee Webb Butler, and was the widower of Ressie Mae Ayers Butler. He was retired from United Merchants Textiles and was a member of Stinchcomb United Methodist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hicks Funeral Home, Elberton, with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Survivors include two sons, Hugh Butler, Dewy Rose, and Charles Butler, Elberton; a sister, Flora Ward, Elberton; four brothers, Raymond Butler, Frank J. Butler, Henry S. Butler and G. Cope Butler, all of Elberton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Steve Hall, Wade Gaines, Stanley Ayers, Gaines Butler, Russell Butler and Carey Butler.
