He attended Abraham Baldwin College and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1950 with a degree in veterinary medicine. Upon graduation, he joined the University faculty for one year before entering private practice in Elberton. After 12 years of private practice, he returned to the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. After retiring from the University in 1987, he became the executive director of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association. Mrs. Tamblyn was the daughter of the late Francis W. and Eliza Lockhead Hughes. She was the widow of the late John Ware Tamblyn. Mrs. Tamblyn was employed by the Bell Telephone Company of Canada following her graduation from the University of Western Ontario. She is survived by a son, Peter; three grandchildren: Jeff, Sarah, and Cassia; and two great-grandchildren, Vincent and Victoria. OBITUARIES Story last updated at 7:29 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2000 Archie Langley Athens Archie Langley, 99, of Athens died Friday, April 28, 2000. A native of LaFayette, GA, Mr. Langley was a son of the late George A. and Florence Ann Burns Langley. He was a graduate of LaFayette High School and the University of Georgia. At the University of Georgia he was president of the Student Athletic Association and active in Demosthenian and student agricultural activities. He was a faculty member of the College of Agriculture and taught agronomy before joining the Federal Government as a USDA marketing economist in 1929. In 1940 and 1941 Mr. Langley headed the cotton section of the USDA Crop and Livestock Reporting Service in Washington, DC. In 1955 until his retirement he was statistician-in-charge of the Georgia state office of the Crop Reporting Service, now called the National Agricultural Statistical Service. He took pride in his University of Georgia Bulldogs and hardly missed an athletic event for seventy years. Mr. Langley was a life member of the Athens Rotary Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Athens, where he was a deacon emeritus and a member of the Forum Sunday School Class. Mr. Langley is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia Burch Langley of Athens; son, Robert Archie Langley of Oak Ridge, TN; son, Emmett Ray Langley of Athens; a brother, Milton Langley, Dalton, GA: five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Athens with Dr. Jon Appleton officiating. Interment will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery.
